Husky Picks for PSAC Football--November 13 (Week 11)

All games are crossovers

Improved Seton Hall wins on the road at Lock Haven.

East Stroudsburg closes out the season at home with a win.

Edinboro gets a road win at Millersville.

Shepherd blitzes Clarion. Rams need to win to ensure a playoff spot.

Shippensburg at home will be way too much for Mercyhurst.

California SHOULD have little trouble with Bloomsburg, especially since the Vulcans are still in the running for a playoff berth.

West Chester at home will finish off the season with a mild upset win over IUP.

Lastly, Husky is going with Slippery Rock on the road to defeat Kutztown for the PSAC championship. SRU has more offensive weapons than the Golden Bears. More on this game in the commentary.

Incidentally, Husky picked 6 of 8 of yesterday's game correctly to up his record to 66--19. He missed the mark with the Cal--SRU and Bloomsburg--Millersville games. Nationally, next week's GSC confrontation between Valdosta and West Florida looms very large. There may be some more such games, but Husky has not yet had time to check the schedule. He will be back tomorrow with more info on the last week of the regular season.

A Short Commentary

The tenth week in PSAC football demonstrated some pride by Bloomsburg, Millersville, and West Chester, two of whom--Millersville and WCU-- almost came up with two stirring wins. Millersville after being way down in the score almost came all the way back to win the game. At the same time, Bloomsburg seems not to have given up on the season and did get another win. West Chester ended up on the short end of the score against Kutztown, but the game was not decided in favor of the Golden Bears of Kutztown until the very end on a pass play by Kutztown on which offensive pass interference could very easily have been called. West Chester obviously surprised Kutztown by coming out in the first quarter and launching a very potent passing game that resulted in Golden Rams jumping out to a 14--0 lead. The Kutztown defense was apparently set up to shut down the potent WCU rushing game, which really never materialized. Going into the second quarter, WCU was holding on to that lead, until the Golden Bears drove for a TD--aided by a very untimely unsportsmanlike penalty by the Rams which greatly helped Kutztown to score their first TD. In the third quarter Kutztown put together a long scoring drive that ended up with the game being tied at 14--14. The fourth quarter was a battle for field position won by Kutztown with excellent punting, which resulted in Kutztown scoring the winning TD. As for the other two games in the East, Lock Haven and East Stroudsburg both unfortunately suffered very one-sided losses to Shippensburg and Shepherd respectively. No need to dwell upon those two games, except to say that both Shippensburg and Shepherd are still in the running for post season playoff consideration.

Out in the West, IUP won over Seton Hill--most disappointingly for Griffins' fans--rather easily, and Clarion came up with a nice effort against Edinboro before succumbing to the Fighting Scots. Mercyhurst prevailed over Gannon to come away with the win in the longstanding Erie rivalry. In the Game of the Week, California could not recover from offensive minded Slippery Rock's first quarter 21 point explosion brought on by a very effective passing attack. Consequently, it will be SRU that makes the trek into Kutztown to meet the Golden Bears for the PSAC championship. Kutztown did not look especially good--especially on offense-- against West Chester this past weekend and they also had trouble early on in the game stopping the passing game of WCU. If the Golden Bears hope to come away with a win against high scoring SRU they will have to up their level of play considerably both on offense and defense. Husky is expecting Slippery Rock to win this game and become the overall PSAC champs , partially based upon what he saw from Kutztown's lukewarm offense this past Saturday at West Chester. Additionally, it is certainly questionable whether Kutztown's defense can sufficiently keep the high powered SRU passing offense in check. Highly ranked California could not, which says something about that which Kutztown should be concerned. So much for Husky's commentary.

Games involving Two Top 25 Teams (week 11)

#12 Slippery Rock with its potent passing beats #14 Kutztown for the PSAC championship! Kutztown has not been that sharp recently.

#13Henderson State edges #14 Ouachita Baptist in the GAC showdown. Some say Henderson wins by two TDs. Guess we will see.

#4 West Florida at home prevails over #2 Valdosta State in the battle for GSC supremacy. Home field makes Husky favor WF.

Div II Regional Rankings as of November 8

Five PSAC teams ranked in the top 8 in SR1? How many will make the post season? If a team is selected, then who knows to what heights it might arise. Sort of like the pro sports playoffs.

PSAC November !# Football Scores (Week 11)

Husky is back from Bloomsburg where the weather was absolutely miserable, spoiling both the game and the tailgate party. The TV weather people missed the mark and then some by a couple of hours. No doubt it affected the game, which California won. Here are the scores.

Seton 59 Lock Haven 7 No surprise who won, but the margin of victory is.

Gannon 13 East Stroudsburg 10 This is a surprise. Nice win for the Golden Knights

Edinboro 42 Millersville 21 Edinboro came on strong at the end of the season.

IUP 31 West Chester 24 Golden Rams came up short with their upset bid.

Shepherd 55 Clarion 0 Golden Eagles must be glad to see this season end.

California 24 Bloomsburg 9 Huskies gave away 10 point on fumbles. Who knows?

Shippensburg 17 Mercyhurst 13 Surprisingly close!

HERE IT IS! Kutztown 38 Slippery Rock 32 Golden Bears must have brought their A GAME.

Husky picked 5 of 8 games correctly. He misfired on the Gannon--ESU, IUP--West Chester, and SRU--Kutztown games for a 5--3 record. For the year he ended up with a total record of 71--20.
