New Haven proved once and for all they reign supreme in the Northeast 10 with their second win over Bentley. The question is can they play with the likes of Kutztown or the winner of the other semifinal, should they win over the Golden Bears on the road. Elsewhere, Notre Dame came up with the big plays defensively against Slippery Rock when sorely needed. Can they do the same against Shepherd's QB and his passing prowess on the road. Now here is another question. Findlay burned Shepherd three times on long touchdown pass plays. It kept Findlay in the game, and almost facilitated their winning. Husky is sure that Notre Dame scouts noticed that Shepherd was deficient in deep pass coverage, not to mention ND's defense is better than that of Findlay's. There is no reason to believe that Notre Dame could not win this game on the road, unless the Rams shore up that deep pass defense; while at the same time ND is capable of limiting Rams' Bagent's passing production. The unknown entity is, lastly, how Kutztown will perform after a week off. I have recollections of New Haven coming into West Chester some time back in a playoff game and catching WCU off guard and knocking the Golden Rams out of contention. The onus is definitely on Kutztown in this game to perform up to their ranking. Guess we will see! So now for predictions. I see Notre Dame advancing to the SR finals by beating Shepherd, and I think Kutztown with its sound all around game will edge New Haven, who will not be out of it until the final whistle. More on the other three SR's to follow.

Valdosta State must be very happy to see West Florida bow out of the playoffs at the hands of Newberry. After all, West Florida did run up 61 points against the Blazers a couple of weeks back to win the GSC championship. At the same time, Valdosta's upcoming opponent in the SR2 semifinals is West Georgia--a team they only beat by a 36--34 score in regular season play. Nothing is a sure thing for the #1 seeded Blazers. In the other match-up, miraculous Newberry on the road takes on the #2 seed in Bowie State. Although Bowie State took care of business against Lenoir Rhyne, Husky is not yet convinced that the Bulldogs are capable of advancing beyond the second round in to the SR 2 final game. In short, what Husky is saying is that Valdosta at home will defeat West Georgia--maybe by a scant margin, and Newberry will continue to amaze and knock off the #2 seed Bowie State.
