Division 2 Selections for the NCAA Championship Tournament

Let's do each super region one at a time, and if any comment is necessary, then it will be made. In Super Region One, the #1 seed is justifiably Kutztown, simply because they have a win over the #2 seed Shepherd. #2 seed Shepherd of the PSAC will play unseeded Findlay of the GMAC. #3 Notre Dame of the Mountain East will host high scoring Slippery Rock of the PSAC. This game should be the best game in the first round in Super Region One. The final game will match two teams from the Northeast 10 seeing New Haven hosting Bentley, which match-up is a bit unanticipated.

IN super Region Two, Husky does not understand how Valdosta got the #1 seed, in view of the fact that West Florida just beat the Blazers decisively in a showdown for the GSC championship. Absolutely incomprehensible. In any case, #4 Albany takes on West Georgia in the upper half of the SR2 bracket, the winner of who will meet Valdosta. #3 West Florida will take on Newberry in the bottom half, which should not be a problem for the Floridians. The other game features #2 Bowie State against supposedly unseeded Lenoir Rhyne, which game could very well end up with the unseeded Rhyners advancing.

Super Region Three features the #1 team in the country--Ferris state, who will probably remain as such at the close of the super regional finals which lead to the national semi-finals. #4 seed Grand Valley takes on Lindenwood in Allendale, and Husky sees the Lakers winning this game and advancing to take on--you guessed it--Ferris State. Not sure this seeding is what it should be in this case. #3 Northwest Missouri State at home takes on Central Washington, which meeting without a doubt the Bearcats will survive. Lastly, I suspect Harding of the GAC will eliminate always troublesome Washburn of the MIAA.

In Super Region 4, Colorado Mines is #1. #4 Augustana takes on Bemidji State. No comment. #3 Western Colorado-a newcomer to this tournament meets Nebraska Kearney. Husky knows little or nothing about these two, but will take a closer look this week. Lastly #2 Angelo State of the LSC will meet Minnesota Duluth. Angelo State is also an unknown entity, but must have some credentials to be where they are, as they have come out ahead of quite a few teams in the LSC conference who frequently are selected for the big show.

As Husky has indicated, he knows very little about some of these teams, but he will brush up on all of them this week before making his selections of the winners who will advance to the super regional semi-finals. I hope the rest of you do the same. Next weekend will most assuredly be quite interesting. Have a great week.

Husky's Picks for Super Region One Playoff Games.

Husky has looked over the games to be played in Super Region One in the first round of the Div 2 football playoffs and has come up with the following picks. His picks for the other super regions will be posted tonight or tomorrow. There is a lot he doesn't know about all the teams involved , but he will give it a shot. Picks for Super Region One are as follows.

#2 Shepherd of the PSAC at home with its potent passing attack gets the nod over Findlay of the GMAC

#3 seed Notre Dame of the MEC at home should edge Slippery Rock of the PSAC. Slippery Rock is on the road and is missing a number of key players due to injury; but if there is a game where the unseeded team wins, this will be the one. SRU can score with their highly adept QB, and they played #1 seed and PSAC champ Kutztown tough. this past weekend.

Lastly, I see #4 New Haven winning over Bentley. Both teams are in the Northeast 10, and New Haven won the first encounter in the regular season to grab the conference title. I see no reason to anticipate a different result in this game.

Lastly, some strange results often occur in the post season when you have two teams matched up from different conferences of different strengths and also strengths of schedule. It will--as always--be interesting. If you can get to see a game, do so. Unfortunately, no games are being played anywhere near where Husky lives, so he will have to rely on the computer to watch "from afar". Husky hopes to see Kutztown play in person in the next round with whomever their opponent may be. See you tonight or tomorrow with more picks from the other super regions.

Husky's Picks for Super Region Tw0

Super Region Two is made up of teams from the South

The #1 seed is Valdosta State of the Gulf South Conference. Husky is not sure how this came about as West Florida defeated the Blazers the last game of the season to win the conference championship. Very unusual indeed! In any case here are Husky's picks.

#2 Bowie State of the CIAA at home faces Lenoir Rhyne of the SAC. Unseeded Lenoir Rhyne wins this game, in spite of being on the road and in spite of their spot in the bracket. Lenoir Rhyne has performed well in the playoffs over the years, and the SAC is a stronger conference with a better SOS.

#3 West Florida (GSC) takes on Newberry--also of the Southern Athletic Conference. West Florida should be seeded higher, which has already been indicated.. West Florida's strength of schedule is far superior to that of Newberry's. The Gulf South conference is by far stronger than the SAC. West Florida at home wins this game without being tested.

Lastly, #4 seed Albany State of the SIAC meets West Georgia of the GSC. Again Husky is favoring the team from the GSC. West Georgia wins, but not in a romp. That's it for the picks for Super region Two. Let's move on to super Region Three

Ferris State of the GLIAC is the #1 seed and draws a bye.

#2 Harding of the GAC takes on Washburn of the MIAA. Washburn is a dangerous team. Almost every year they pull off an upset in their conference, which is considered by many to be the toughest Div 2 conference in the country. Harding also has a record of repeated success in the Great American Conference. Husky is going with Harding with its great ground game and who is also at home. Another upset by the Ichabods is, however, not out of the question..

#3 Northwest Missouri State--also of the MIAA-- at home takes on Central Washington (Independent0. The Bearcats rarely lose at home and particularly not a playoff game. NWMSU wins this game and advances.

#4 Grand Valley State of the GLIAC meets Lindenwood (GLVC) in Allendale. The Lakers won't lose this playoff game at home. Grand Valley State is the winner. Husky will be back tomorrow with his predictions for Super Region 4.

Husky's Picks for Super Region 4

Colorado Mesa of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference is the #1 seed In Super Region 4

#2 seed Angelo State of the Lone Star Conference hosts Minnesota Duluth (NSIC). I look for visiting Minnesota Duluth to win this game.

Nebraska Kearney of the MIAA meets #3 seeded Western Colorado of the RMAC. Western Colorado wins this game.

#4 seed Augustana(NSIC) takes on Bemidji State also of the NSIC. Augustana wins this game.

Results for Super Region Four

#4 seed Augustana lost to Bemidji State 28--24

#3 seed Western Colorado lost to Nebraska Kearney 31--24

#2 seed Angelo State crushed Minnesota-Duluth 48--14

The seeders missed the mark twice in this super region. The #3 and #4 seeds both lost. Bemidji State will play the #1 seed Colorado Mines next Saturday. Nebraska Kearney will play #2 seed Angelo State down in Texas. Husky missed all three picks in this super region to drop his record to 7--5 for the first round. He didn't study the Super Region 4 teams closely enough. :D Nevertheless, he did have more correct picks than incorrect ones overall. The Winner of the Week has to be Newberry with it astonishing win over West Florida. Husky will be back later this evening with some game reports and recaps. Sooner or later, he will also get to some commentary about the first week.
