PSAC Football Schedule for October 1 (Week Five) Husky's picks are included (28--11)

Seton Hill at Gannon--12 noon Gannon having a nice season so far wins another one.

Millersville at Lock Haven--1;00 PM Millersville had a good game at WCU. They will play even better and get a win at Lock Haven.

Shepherd at Shippensburg--1:00 PM The joy of Ship's win at Bloomsburg will be short lived. The Red Raiders have no shot! The question is how
many yards the Rams' QB Bagent will pass for.

Kutztown at East Stroudsburg--1:05 PM The Golden Bears may be down after the excruciating loss to Shepherd, but Kutztown wins this game
anyway.

California at Clarion--2::00 PM This is definitely another setback for the Golden Eagles. Cal could now run the table. Yes, Husky knows about SRU
and IUP!

Slippery Rock at IUP--2:00 PM Husky thinks "The Rock" wins another one in this intense rivalry.

Edinboro at Mercyhurst--2:00 PM Mercyhurst at home wins this local rivalry game.

West Chester at Bloomsburg--6:00 PM In spite of WCU's past travails up at Bloomsburg, the Huskies will find themselves out of this game by halftime.
The Golden Rams in a laugher. The Huskies' past defense has been revealed as horrendous. A rare night game
at Bloom!

The obvious "Game of the Week" is SRU at IUP. The Kutztown--East Stroudsburg game might be interesting depending on Kutztown's state of mind.
According to the PSAC website, video coverage is available for all eight games.

PSAC Commentary (Week Four)

Many were surprised by Millersville's showing against West Chester, as the Marauders were in the game until late in the fourth quarter. In fact, at one time in the first half Millersville actually led 14--2. Although the Lancaster Countians did not pile up a lot of total yards, it was a pretty good effort by the visitors. Lock Haven's troubles continued as a result of absorbing a pasting at the hands of East Stroudsburg. I suspect Millersville will get its first win against LHU this coming weekend, and make things even more agonizing for the Bald Eagles. One has to wonder if the LHU program will ever emerge from the football doldrums. At Bloomsburg the Huskies were never really in the game, as the Red Raiders of Shippensburg passed them silly. Bloomsburg's offense was stagnant until the fourth quarter by which time it was far too late for any rescue effort. Having attended the game, the disappointment on the part of the Bloomsburg fandom was quite evident to Husky, as there were high hopes for a win by the Huskies. Enough said! The game at Kutztown was everything people anticipated its being, as the team that scored last (Shepherd) came out ahead 42--35. It seems nobody in the PSAC will have any luck holding down the passing prowess of Shepherd's QB Bagent, as he passed for over 450 yards. There is nobody left in the East to challenge Shepherd. If and when the Rams lose their first game, it will be in November at the hands of the PSAC West champion--probably either IUP or SRU--or in the post season Div II playoffs.

Speaking of the West, as expected California took no prisoners against Edinboro by administering a 49--7 shellacking on the "Fightin' Scots". The one sided details are available on the Vulcans website. Gannon continued its successful season with their win over Clarion and moved to 3--1, but it should be pointed out the "Big Three" Cal, IUP, and SRU are still out there on the Golden Knights' schedule. As expected IUP defeated Mercyhurst, but the guys from Erie gave a respectable effort in losing 33--16. Lastly, "The Rock" continued on its merry way by defeating Seton Hill. A lone safety were the only points Seton Hill could muster. It is still a bit early to make any predictions as to who will win the PSAC West because none of the heretofore mentioned "Big Three' have played one another; but that, however, will change this coming weekend as SRU and IUP get together for their annual slugfest. The outcome of this encounter will tell us a lot more as to how things will "come down" in the PSAC West. This get together is obviously the Game of the Week in the PSAC.

One last thing, Husky made mention of the contest between Harding (#7 nationally) and Ouachita Baptist (#9 nationally) of the Great American Conference, a game which in all likelihood decided the GAC championship for this year. This game played on OB's home field, featured two of the best running teams in the country! If interested in reading about this encounter, the game recap is posted on Page 7--this page. See you all late Saturday afternoon or early in the evening. Husky has a grandson's birthday party to attend earlier Saturday afternoon.

Incidentally, according to AFAC rankings, there are two games this weekend featuring two nationally ranked teams. In the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, #2 Grand Valley State visits #17 Saginaw Valley; and in the Gulf South Conference, #13 Valdosta State journeys to Cleveland, Mississippi to take on #25 Delta State. If there were to be an upset, I would favor the game at Delta State; but I think both the higher ranked Lakers and the Blazers will emerge victorious. That's all for now!

PSAC Scores for October 1 (Week Five) 33--14

Gannon 31 Seton Hill 10 Gannon wins another one.

Millersville 42 Lock Haven 12 LHU's woes continue, and Millersville seems to be coming a round.

Shepherd 30 Shippensburg 13 Not as easy for Shepherd as many anticipated. A good effort by the Red Raiders

Kutztown 24 East Stroudsburg 20 The closeness of this game should not be a surprise with Kutztown coming off the crushing
loss to Shepherd, and lets give ESU credit for putting up strong resistance.

California 59 Clarion 14 As anticipated!

IUP 48 Slippery Rock 21 The Crimson Hawks rose to the occasion at home knocking off highly ranked SRU. This win by I
IUP changes entirely the complexion of the race for the title in the PSAC West. The margin
of the win by IUP is to say the least eye opening!

Edinboro `6 Mercyhurst 13 Nice win for the "Fightin' Scots"! A mild upset.

The last score is a halftime score and it is most surprising, as Bloomsburg leads West Chester 21--3. in the past, many a bad thing has happened to the Golden Rams up at Bloomsburg, and that is what has happened so far tonight with the Huskies scoring after a blocked punt and then they returned a WCU fumble 80 yards for another TD. We will see if this score holds up. Bloomsburg will receive the second half kickoff.

Well here it is! Bloomsburg held on to defeat West Chester 21--16. This is an absolutely unbelievable result, as Bloomsburg did next to nothing on offense after a first period TD. The game recap will appear later tonight or tomorrow morning. It must have been a long ride bus ride back to West Chester for the Golden Rams. Husky picked 5 of the eight games correctly. He misfired on the SRU--IUP game, the Edinboro--Mercyhurst game, and the BU--WCU game. His record now goes to 33--14. Husky's worst pick was picking WCU over Bloomsburg followed closely by favoring SRU over IUP, and his best pick was saying Kutztown would win out over ESU.

IUP Dominates SRU

https://iupathletics.com/news/2021/10/1 ... 48-21.aspx

BTW, this game was played AT Slippery Rock before "The Rock's" homcomimg crowd. Quite a win for the Crimson Hawks. IUP will host California next week, and if the Hawks win it would seem the PSAC West crown will come to rest in Indiana, PA this year. IUP should soar in its ranking. Should Cal win, then the title is up for grabs.
