DYK: While looking up who McCutchen is chasing on the all time career hit list, I saw a player by the name of George Burns just ahead of McCutchen. I didn’t think much of it, until I scrolled up a little more, and saw a second George Burns on the list. Both George Burns played around the same time period (early 1900’s), both with over 2,000 career hits. I have to be honest, I recognize most of the players names on these all time lists, but I have never heard of a George Burns, let alone two of them. And both of them must have been pretty darn good to have the ver 2,000 career hits.
Cutch is creeping up on some other notable and familiar names on the list: Bill Madlock, Bobby Bonilla, Bill Mazeroski are just ahead of him on the list. He should pass all of them sometime in the next couple of months.
