Here we go. Didn't take long.

I want the team do do well, so I can't be on the board.

This is a spring training thread. Observations about spring training. You hijacked the thread to make it about bashing the Pirates. I really think you are just a grumpy old man who needs something to complain about. If that's the case, start your own thread on how the organization sucks, Nutting sucks and everyone involved sucks.I'm sure it will be a very popular thread.

I'll admit to only a slight over-reaction. Slight.

I think the team improved some on its offense, but the pitching still appears to me as being a serious Achilles heel. Brubaker is a big part of it, IMO. I don't see a .500 club with him on it. I hope that I'm wrong.

It should be remembered that I didn't raise the point that he put us behind early in the game. I added a comment.

I don't agree that ST games have no meaning. I agreed that nothing "counts." We have a disagreement on what ST "means." ST games must mean something when we do well.

The bottom line is- I have my concerns re our pitching. I can only surmise that some dismiss it. I see that as simply a difference of opinion.

I don't have as much of a concern of the offense, so I chose not to comment on it. Policy violation, evidently.

Who wrote anything about Nutting? Sounds to me as if someone's attempting to create issues where none exist. Don't pin that on me.

I don't care what your opinion is. I didn't have a problem with you thinking spring training is meaningless. I had a problem with your calendar.

And that was my personal opinion. Not a policy violation.

We all know the Pirates organization has had issues and we all agree Nutting hasn't been a good owner (and even though you didn't directly mention it, it is a stale theme from many people on this board). I just want to talk baseball. Good or bad from the 2023 team. That's where this conversation started and you took it another way. That's all. Let's move on.

It always amazes me that true baseball fans put SO much legitimacy on ST games. Spring Training is nothing more than game conditioning, and in-game practice and experimentation. So, even though there are some results that have importance (only if you know what you're looking for), the score is definitely not one of them.

Not meaningless, just have to know what the meaning is.

The score didn't matter. How guys do during the games sometimes does. In an- at best- borderline guy like Boomaker, it's not the best first impression of a season. Coach Cowher said it years ago- "First impressions don't mean everything....but, they mean a lot." I agree with him on that.

I'm pretty sure that Coach Cowher made that comment during.....training camp that, supposedly doesn't...."count."

It doesn't mean everything. Let's see how the guy does...and, the rest of the pitching staff does as time goes on.

Taken to the other extreme, we could choose to ignore everything entirely, then wonder how the heck we lost whatever number of games by the end of a season.

ST must mean something, or else we wouldn't have a thread devoted to it. Look how much we've discussed this few games.

Bubba is strictly a pitcher in 2023.

I don't think you overreacted at all. If they lose spring training doesn't mean anything at all, but if a Pirate player does well, then that is an indication that he will make it to the Hall of Fame.

Maybe the other teams pitcher was just trying out some new things?

Maybe. Or maybe Ke'Bryan took a new approach that he worked on in the off-season that he is going to apply in 2023 that will produce more power.

Saw this on TV this morning. The umpires in yesterday's game left after the top of the 9th because the game was officially over. The teams wanted more reps. So they played the bottom of the ninth and called their own balls and strikes and made their own calls. Very interesting.
