I'm disliking this McCutchen signing even more.

I don't get why the Pirates need 21 pitchers on their 40 man roster. I was wishing would have DFAd our 16th releiver. I liked the upside of a healthy Andujar for a full season, especially with the limited shift this year. I was thinking outfielder Ryan Vilade was going to be DFAd.

I don't like this decision. I also thought Vilade would be the guy.

It paid off. Still a questionable move.

Cherington outsmarted us all. The fact that they paid him 1.5 million this off-season is a major reason he passed through waivers. In the meantime, the Pirates have way too many pitchers on their 40 man roster (imo).

You really think teams shied away from 1.5? I don't. That falls on the floor when Billy Beane takes his pants off at night, let alone any other GM. Heck, even the Pirates are paying it.

The others shied away from paying it to Andujar.

I'd like to know the reason.

I'm thinking he'll get his opportunities this season. Let's see what he does with them.

Let me start by saying 871 different players pitched in the majors in 2022 which is an average of about 29 pitchers for each team. Therefore, teams are squeezing out many of the borderline hitters from their 40 man rosters. Lewin Diaz might be a fair comparison to Andujar, who has been picked up and waived 4 times in about a month. Mu guess is if he was 1.5 million no one would have picked him up. There are still better free agents teams might sign to fill up their 40 man so they aren't going to spend it on Andujar.

Miguel Andujuar will be a 28 year old flyer this year. My feeling is if he was minimum salary, most teams would still pass....but at least one team would have claimed him.

Thanks. I like him. I like our team better with him on it.

Maybe I'm old school, but if I have my choice between A) a borderline pitcher and B) a borderline hitter, I choose the position player every time.

None of our pitchers impress me enough to take the worst of them over Andujar. Wish they did!

I agree with you 100% on the borderline hitter over the borderline pitcher. Bringing in a guy off the bench to hit a home run or steal a base is exciting to the fan. Bringing in the 13th pitcher on the roster is not. I think the Pirates will cut 1 or 2 pitchers before the regular season begins. It might be an important spring training for some of those guys. Hopefully Andujar can earn a spot.

If he does stuff like that- nice. All I expect is that he does OK. He was streaky with the Yankees, but they're overloaded and he was the odd guy out. I'd like him to be our "sixth man," so to speak. At 28, he should be at that level.

If only our pitching was halfway decent, we should've been able to hang in this division. It's good, but not that good.

A guy like Andujar could help.....if....

A dud pitcher can't help, no matter what.
