Don't know how good he will be but it sure is going to be good to see him the black and gold again.

He's not a good fit. His leadership more talk than anything.
Re: Welcome home Cutch!
This is a great fit for the Pirates. It is great to see Cherington get some major league ballplayers in here. This is much much better than relying on the old failed policies of the past of expecting untested suspects to compete with the other teams major league ballplayers.

Re: Welcome home Cutch!
Let's face it. Last year plus the year before, this team was unwatchable; some of the worst baseball in this century; making news for the wrong reasons.
Our off-season acquisitions won't make us winners, but we'll be less losers. If you can't be good, at least be interesting enough to watch.
Cutch will bring in more than $5 mil for the club. Get Bauer and make even more. Use it to keep Reynolds. Then, we just could have a team.

Until he's hitting .173 in June and is striking out every 3rd at bat.
A lot of you are acting like it's MVP Cutch coming back when you're really getting Ben Gamel.

Re: Welcome home Cutch!
I have no idea who you're describing. It's not me.
He's one of 25 guys, not one of 8.
Name the Pittsburgh Pirates superstar that McCutchen replaces. He's staking the spot of some bit player who would've been DFA'd before the end of the season.
And, he's one of two or three, who after Reynolds is dumped for nothing, is a home run threat.
The answer is 'yes.'
The question was, "is the roster better than it was on Thursday?"

Re: Welcome home Cutch!
I am looking forward to Cutch back in a Pirate uniform. I don't consider him a home run threat though. Last year he hit 17 home runs in 518 at bats in a hitter friendly park. We didn't dump the next the Babe Ruth, but we did dump guys that hit home runs at a better rate than Cutch. Michael Chavis at the end of last year and Diego Castillo this year both had better home run ratios in the majors in 2022. The Reds claimed Blake Sabol off of the Pirates as the 4th pick in the rule 5 draft as they are planning on him being one of their two catchers on their roster. But back to your point, yes our major league roster appears to be stronger because of the guys we brought in, but also by the hopeful growth of guys that have gone through the Pirates system.GreenWeenie wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 6:13 pm And, he's one of two or three, who after Reynolds is dumped for nothing, is a home run threat.

It is really gratifying to see that Cherington has abandoned the failed policies of the past of relying on untested suspects and hoping for the best. Cutch's 17 HR's are better than anyone on the team other than Reynolds. Now lets all say in unison - KEEP REYNOLDS and let the other teams keep their suspects.

He's certainly a home run threat when you put him up against just about any other player on the team the moment that Reynolds is cast off for next to nothing.statscbl wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 9:07 pmI am looking forward to Cutch back in a Pirate uniform. We're a patty cake hitting team. Home run hitters cost money. That's why we don't have any.

That .384 slugging percentage is a home run threat.GreenWeenie wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 11:37 pm

This move is bad as the Santana signing.

Well, McCutchen is on the downside of his career, but he is much better than wasting at bats on some suspect and hoping it works out. Hope is not a plan.
