Here are some stats Shedman will enjoy.
The 6 teams in the NL that spent the most money all made the play-offs.
Out of the 9 NL teams that spent the least amount of money, none of them made the play-offs.
Out of the 4 teams that are still left in the play-offs, they were all in the top 9 in the major leagues in spending.

We could've been in the top 3 and we still wouldn't make the playoffs.

Cherington's our GM. :(

The guy's has two winning seasons. Fortunately for him, he won the WS in one of them. Living off that since.

Record since then? Not good.

He's The Jack Wilson Of GMs; milking one panflash for all its worth.

Fightin' Phils go to the WS.

Catch 22 for me watching the playoffs every year.

Love seeing the best go at it.

But, they remind me of what a former boss told me about going to trade shows-

"You go. You see the latest, greatest things that you know could help our company. But, you know our bosses (BOB) will never go for any of them." :(((

There we have it- Phillies vs. Astros; a tale of two teams.

The Astros have been dominant; winning their division again.

The Phillies were the Brewers getting in....finishing way back in third place in a crowded division. They weren't good, but got good at the right time; knocking off good teams along the way.

Putting together a roster along either of these lines is going to take an absolute miracle. Fortunately, I believe in them.

The two hottest teams in baseball going at it for the world series. If my numbers are correct, the Astros(106-56) who finished the season with the best record in the American League have now won 9 games in a row. The Phillies(87-75) who finished the season with the 6th best team in the NL have won 9 of their last 11 games. Not sure what to expect.

The number 1 seed from the AL going up against the number 6 seed from the NL.

I will guess Astro’s in 6 games. The Astros just have too much fire power for the Phillies to overcome.

Astros bullpen and lineup are much better, however the Phillies have one of the hottest pitchers right now. It will come down to Wheeler and Nola being able to shutdown the Astros potent lineup. The Phillies lineup isn’t good enough to get into any type of slugfest with the Astros.

Defense and RP seem to give Houston the edge.

I'd like to see Dusty earn his ring, and as much as I'd like to see the Phils win, my brain points to Houston.

My thought about Dusty as well.
On paper, I say it is the Astros easily. If you believe in team bonding, chemistry and all that stuff, the Phillies are on a run. I will go ahead and pick the Phillies for the upset, just to be different.

Easily? I can't imagine it being too easy, unless those Phils bats go cold. The Phils have some decent SP, too.

Gotta wonder if the Phils clock's gonna strike midnight. They've beaten some tough clubs to get here. But, they have some weaknesses that the Stros can go after.

That Stros team is absolutely loaded. Must be nice. Guys leave. They don't skip a beat. What they don't fill, they go out and get, unlike certain other teams {{{not naming names.}}}

The two best going at it. May the better men win!

First off, I am picking the Phillies to win as they are one of the two hottest teams in baseball with good players coming through at the right time . When I said the Astros look better on paper, I am taking the intangibles out of it and looking at only the numbers that were put up over the 162 games season. Even though the offensive numbers were similar between the two clubs, the pitching side is a different story. The Astros were second in the majors with a 2.90 ERA while the Phillies were 18th with a 3.93. To make matters worse, their bullpen had the 8th worse ERA which was much worse than all play-off contenders. The Astros had the best bullpen. The most telling state is wins, 19 games better. That being said, we have both seen enough baseball to know, we can take most of those stats on paper and throw them out the window at this point.

What I meant is that I don't see either team having an easy time of it. I can't imagine four ho-hum victories coming from either side. There might be one or two games like that, but I don't think either team's going to have a cake walk by any means.

But, we never know....

Now, if I hear any Morse Code beeps going on, that could change things. I'd take the Phils to sweep. ;))

For those of you not following, last night was a rain out. They pushed the rest of the schedule back 1 day, even the Thursday off-day got pushed back to Friday. A potential game 6 and 7 will now be on Saturday and Sunday. Having an entire day to travel really that necessary?

And second. Down to the best of three with Houston retaking HFA.

May the better men win!

In 2019, the Nationals won the world series over the Astros in seven with the home team losing every game that series. Maybe in some kind of reverse-psychology way the Phillies will do better as the underdog again and the pressure not to choke will be on the Astros. I am really stretching here.
