Bucs will be fighting to not lose 120 games. Just sickening. They reward Newman's sound defensive play and solid hitting with demotion and then trade. Cruz did nothing to be handed the SS job. Other players see the lack of trust and respond accordingly, ala Reynold's request for trade. Garcia looked like a challenger for the 2nd base job is now gone. Marcano should be starting at ONE position. Bench is gone with Gamel and Chavis. We have no catcher to speak of and the pitching is a disaster area. Who's our ace, JT or Kellar? Plus they let Thompson and Wilson go for nothing

OCO. Quit being so negative.

Kevin Newman, "solid" hitter? Like the rest, more like "soiled" hitter. I'm not banging on him, but at the same time, I'm not losing sleep over seeing him traded.

His reward? Going to the juggernaut Cincinnati Reds. Maybe I am banging on him.

We won't lose 120 games. Not in our division. We're like a couple of those NFL divisions this year. 100's more like it. {{{Triple sigh.}}}

We do have 2 solid catchers though. Hedges is no offensive threat, but he is a good defensive catcher. And Endy absolutely crushed it last year in the minors at every level. At the very least the catcher position is a slight improvement over last season. And don’t forget Davis is only a year away as well.

Cruz has potential to be a hall of fame shortstop. We are talking 500 plus career homerun potential from a SHORTSTOP. The kid is an RBI machine, and his numbers will only get better as the talent around him gets better. The only way Newman gets in the HOF, is if he pays admission like the rest of us.

I thought Wilson pitched well in the second half last season, I wish they would have stuck with him. Thompson is no big loss IMHO.

Hayes has to have a better offensive season this year, if we are going to see an improvement in the win column. And I believe he will and we will.

This roster looks like a 70-80 win roster to me. With some Cutch magic, maybe they can reach 85-90 wins and make it a really fun summer.

HTP!!

The Pirates will be fine without Newman, but he did hit .274 for a team that hit .222, not to mention .308 a few year ago.
I think the Pirates are putting a better product on the field for 2023 and will win more games. Don't forget 2023 MLB is going to a more balanced schedule where the Pirates will play 24 less games in the same division.

Newman's hitting wasn't all that impressive to me. Two decent seaons; not a great deal of power.

I get sold on "glove," "defense," "great guy." We lose 100 games. Why? Because some don't pitch, the rest can't hit.

Wilson? No thanks. Hope he does well in Milwaukee except when we hit the shit off him.

Hayes? Shrug. Better than nothing, I guess. A good player, but I'm not hanging any hats on him.

Cruz- HOF potential? I'll wait on that. His defense isn't any HOF potential.

We won't be horrendous. We'll be as bad as our pitching is able to go.

I'm a bit unsure of how good a manager Shelton is. He hasn't had anything to work with, and most direction comes from on high. So, who knows on him?

After x years, still more questions than are being addressed.

Last year, this 30 year old journeyman was at least a 4. 2022 was his first year with over 44 innings, though. Be honest none of his have heard of this guy until this year where he still only pitched 135 innings. His career ERA before the Rays was near 6. With 179 innings with the Rays under 3. Very tough player to rate Rays pitchers.
