Maybe Andujar can put together his rookie season numbers and become a 4 again. At age 23 He had 573 at bats 25 homers 97 rbis and a .297 average.

I would say that when a guy has one halfway decent year followed by that many more duds, that the halfway decent year is the outlier.

I figured if I put a positive spin on the Pirates, I would get shot down. Better than a halfway decent year is a decent year. Better than a decent year would be a good year. 25 homers 97 rbis .297 average, runner up to Ohtani for rookie of the year is at least a good year. Every knows the guy could hit as he hit over .300 in the minors 4 different years.

Here is how it goes down. He was regarded as one of the top hitting prospects in baseball. He backed it in 2018 in the majors, He tore up his shoulder in 2019 where it ended his season and ran into 2020. He never got more than 45 games in the majors again and has not returned to form in a part-time role. The Pirates picked him up. I never disputed a 1 rating or a 1.5 rating, just pointing out that the guy could hit. Sorry if I ruined your day by the positive twist.

I don't think that I shot your opinion down. This is a problem that the written word can lead to.

I take a neutral stance on the guy. I really don't know whether he's the guy from his early year....or, the guy from more recent.

This is his opportunity. He might not get many others.

Just about all 30 teams pick up guys like this. Teams like the Bucs allow them to start or play more.

Ben must see something he likes enough to give him a shot.

I rate the guy 1.5, not 1.0. That's what I'd give a guy who stands a chance.

I certainly hope that he comes through. I just wouldn't bet the family farm on it. That's too risky for me.

The Pirates made 2 minor transacions.
1) The Pirates traded 26 year old Hoy Park to the Red Sox for 18 year old pitcher Inmer Lobo.
2) The Pirates claimed 26 year old first baseman Lewin Diaz from the Marlins.

I think the deals make sense. It makes more sense to have a first baseman on the 40 man roster than an infielder. Diaz was a top 10 prospect for the Twins 2 years in a row. His last 3 years in the Marlins minors league organization, he hit 27 homers, 20 homers in 278 at bats and 19 homers in 325 at bats his last 3 seasons in the minors. In the majors, he looked like he had some potential with his power in 2021, but failed enough in 2022 for the Marlins to not protect him.

The Pirates also received 18 year old Venezuelan pitcher has 5 starts in rookie ball with an impressive line of 22 innings, 28 strike outs, 0.82 ERA and a .77 Whip.
