Pirates Bullpen

Post by BucFanInPhillyLand »

As I said in another topic, I'm excited about next years starting rotation. I hope the stay healthy. The bullpen on the, on the other hand, gives me cause for concern. I'm comfortable with a few guys (Bednar, Holderman, De Jong, Crowe?) but I'm not super confident. I think the bullpen needs some major additions.

I hear you. I am also cautiously excited about our starters, but have little confidence in our bullpen. I think our way of getting our bullpen better is to get more starters. Let our overflow of starters become our bullpen.

Here is what I see for our pitching sometime in 2023, in no particular order.
1) Get another starter Jose Quintana type (even though I would prefer two).
2) Quinn Priester- Pirates #3 prospect as a starter
3) Mike Burrows- Pirates #8 prospect as a starter and was in futures game
4) Kyle Nicolas- Pirates #17 prospect as a starter
5) Mitch Keller- looks good the last month
6) Roansy Contreras-looks good the last month
7) Johan Oviedo-looks good the last month
8) Luis Ortiz-looks good the last month
9) David Bednar-Pirates all star
10) Yerry De Los Santos- looked like the real deal to me before he was pitching hurt
11) Tahnaj Thomas-prospect reliever
12) Bryce Wilson-starter this year, bullpen next
13) JT Brubaker-starter this year, bullpen next
Pitchers that might be fighting for a spot on the pitching staff
1) Will Crowe
2) Chase DeJong
3) Yohan Ramirez
4) Zach Thompson
5) Miguel Yajure
6) Blake Cederlind
7) Colin Holderman
8) Robert Stephenson
9) Duane Underwood

The bottom line to me is if our prospect pitchers do well, we will have depth in our bullpen. We will see,

Holderman looked good all season minus that last outing. He was probably injured and battling through it.

Dealing and Crowe were miscast because of Bednar being out and over used.

There is promise and excitement for next year.
