Sorry if I make anyone angry with the post, but It seems like the Pirates are trying pretty hard to have one of the first 3 records in baseball. This year the worst 3 records all have a 16.7% chance of getting the number 1 picks. As of 9/17 it looks like the Nationals and Athletics have 2 of the spots wrapped up. Here is the race for the last pick.

Pirates 55-90
Tigers 55-89 +.5
Royals 57-88 +2
Reds 57-88 +2

This Off Season, we should dump Reynolds, Hayes, Bednar, Gamel and replace them with LMG's. Then we could go for the worst record in baseball next year and get a good draft pick???

I decided to beat Shedman to it.
Here are the standings for top 3 draft picks( all equal chance in the lottery)....or the worse records in baseball.

1 Nationals 52-97 .349
2t Pirates 55-95 .367
2t Athletics 55-95 .367

If you aren't making the playoffs, this is where you want to be in order to get a talent that will help get you to the playoffs.

Why stop here. Why not get rid of Reynolds, Hayes, and Bednar, then we can be even worse next year and get another draft pick. Then when we have accumulated enough draft picks we can give them away in the rule 5 draft.

Right. Name the last superstar the Pirates 'gave away' in Rule 5
