Which team do opposing fans just have to see, when an opponent rolls into town? The Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Padres, Mets?? Nope it is the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Pirates lead the majors in road attendance with an average of 30,819 fans attending Pirate games on the road.
Surprisingly the Yankees are 22nd in road attendance (23,893 avg), and the Reds are second in road attendance 30,462 avg).
I understand the attendance is obviously based on who you have played on the road, and road games in LA, St. Louis, Chicago, Milwaukee, and San Diego have certainly helped. However the Pirates have also played in Cincinnati, Tampa Bay, Washington, and Detroit teams which don’t draw great crowds.
Just something I stumbled upon and figured I would pass it on.
