Starting Pitching options in free agency

Post by urbanexplorer »

Who do you think are good rotation candidates for the Buccos to pick up in either free agency or a trade after the lockout ends? It is clear this team needs some help in the rotation if only to eat innings and for players to maybe showcase/increase their league value to other teams on bounce back deals. Guys who can be dealt at the deadline if needed as well.

I will start with one such candidate, Matthew Boyd. The former Tiger is coming off an elbow ligament problem and surgery that shut him down. He was then non-tendered by Detroit after the offseason began. Before his injury trouble, he was having a pretty decent 2021 season after a few years of long-ball trouble. Boyd seems like a good candidate for teams to bring in on a 1 year "prove you are healthy" type of deal. He may be a bit pricey for the Buccos given he is a fairly established guy, but I think it is not illogical. He seems like a real gamer who would do better in the NL if a universal DH is not adopted and the AL central was a real meat grinder. Boyd only has 12 MLB plate appearances but seems to be a good hitter in that limited sample size as well.
