Re: Rule 5 Draft

Can anyone help me figure out what happened in the minor league draft? My understanding is the Pirates protected only 31 players and picked 2 players. Then they lost 11 players. Shouldn't they have at least protect a few more players?

Re: Rule 5 Draft

I am glad that we didn't lose Malcom Nunez or Matt Gorski.

I was a little surprised at how many guys we lost in the minor league draft.

Re: Off Season 2022-2023 thread

Jose Quintana 2 years at $26 million looks like a bargain compared to some of the other signings. He went to a contender. We all know we won't sign players like that until Bob lets the moths out of his wallet, but the Pirates also have to prove to players that they are wanting to contend.

Re: Pirates Get #1 Pick in 2023

Good thing the Pirates won the tie-breaker with the Reds. The Pirates now have the #1 pick instead of the #7 and I believe their slot money will be over 55% higher. Now let's try to compete in games in 2023, then make the play-offs in 2024.

Re: Off Season 2022-2023 thread

Garcia was non-tenured by the Giants. He gets a reluctant 2 Before you get to it, I am giving Vince Velasquez another reluctant 2. Saw enough of him in Philly to rank him any higher Tommy Kahnle 1.5 I think the Giants let Garcia go because they didn't want to pay the 2.4 million. Pirates spent 2.5 ...

Re: Endy Rodriguez AA Stats

For those that care, Baseball America moved Endy Rodriguez up to their number one Pirate's prospect followed by 2) Termarr Johnson, 3) Henry Davis, 4) Luis Ortiz and 5) Quinn Priester.

Re: Bryan Reynolds

Calling BS on Mackey. If that's the case, why doesn't Mackey spit the number out? If he's afraid of losing a source, so what? How would Mackey know that he was told the truth? I agree with that. I can understand if a writer wants to be respectful with the player and ownership and not spit out numbe...

The Pirates need to have a free T-shirt night with your saying on it to help attendance.

Re: Bryan Reynolds

I heard Carlos Santana say through a translator that he came to the Pirates because he was excited they called and wanted him to play. Jose Quintanta came last year because the Pirates were the only team that promised him a spot in the rotation. So basically, we usually get our free agents because w...

Ralphie wrote: Sun Dec 04, 2022 6:01 pm My guess is he will be traded. The statement the Pirates came out with is posturing, to try to maximize his value.
If Reynolds really requested a trade, he might have just lowered what the Pirates can get in return for him. I might be wrong, but I want to call this on a blunder and blame Nutting.

Re: Off Season 2022-2023 thread

They didn't release Newman. They traded him. $2.8 million for a punchless middle infielder who outside of 2021 was an average to below average fielder. A position where the Pirates have a surplus of options. They got a good arm in the exchange. Do you honestly think the Pirates would have traded Ne...

Re: Off Season 2022-2023 thread

There are some big name shortstops and starting pitchers as free agents this year, but the outfielders are pretty thin past Aaron Judge. From what I have been reading, the Pirates are not shopping Reynolds but a lot of teams are approaching the Pirates about him. I am guessing the Pirates won't sal...
