Re: MLB suspends Pirates' Aroldis Chapman for 'inappropriate actions'

The umpire ball-strike calls were not good all day. After the double, I believe Chapman was near the umpire to back up the throw. Whatever he said to the umpire was quick and had his hat covering his mouth. I doubt many people noticed. I am not sure what was said after the ejection, but he seemed fa...

Re: Game #7 4/4/24 Pirates @ Nationals

Isn't it nice to have an Aroldis Chapman we can use in that situation.

Re: Homestand - Baltimore & Detroit

The Orioles line-up does not have a ton of big names, but I think it is legit. Their offense is absolutely loaded in triple A, but I don't think they will score 26 runs every game like they did a couple days ago.

Re: Michael Taylor?

I never made any predictions on how Taylor would do, but I wished we would have signed him before spring training so he could get his needed at bats. As a result, he only has 3 hits tonight and we have to deal with his low .480 batting average. :)

Re: Pirates acquire Joey Bart

I was not a fan of losing Jackson Wolf. I thought it was too early to give up on him. Pretty excited about Bart. He was the number #2 overall pick when he was drafted. They said he called all of the pitches when he was in college. When Posey sat out during Covid, they probably bumped Bart up too ear...

8-3 Pirates.

No save for Chapman now.
Well, now he can.

Re: 'Bulldog': How Pirates catcher Henry Davis improved defense to make push for starting job

The word is Henry Davis not only decided to spend a good portion of the off-season in Bradenton working on his catching, but also got other young Pirate pitchers to spend time in Bradenton as well. We know about his work ethic, but I think we are going to see him being a strong leader with our group...

Re: 2024 Opening Day Roster

Here was the Trib's take on the 5th starter. Little different then what Mackey reported Cherington said Ortiz will start the season pitching in a bulk role out of the bullpen, indicating the Pirates could use an opener instead of a fifth starter. Contreras, Falter and Fleming — all out of minor-lea...

I wonder if he's keeping the seat warm for Bae?
If not for Bae, then possibly for Liover Peguero or Nick Gonzales. Both were pretty solid in spring, even though Peguero missed some time. I think Bae is out until mid April.

Re: Spring Training

I'm surprised Jose Hernandez was sent down. He seemed to do well last year. Especially as a Rule 5 guy. My take on that is Hernandez was too good not to pass up as a rule 5 guy, but still needed more preparation to be on a 26 man roster. The Pirates kept him in low leverage situations last year, bu...

Re: Spring Training

I would have preferred Nick Gonzales or Liover Peguero at second base around 70% of the time. Not start 30%. I also figure with Cruz coming off an injury, I would have preferred Triolo at short or thrid 20%, first base 30% and second base 30%. Not start 20%. I think the Pirates plan probably puts us...

Re: Spring Training

The Pirates official site has extended highlights of the "breakout" game vs. Orioles and for those urging the Pirates to sign a starting pitcher ... don't. Holy crimony, the quality of the Pirates starting pitching is incredible: Skenes is amazing. Blowing 102 mph fastball by highly-rated...
