They almost certainly were, and you are correct - they spent a lot of money for an outfielder and solved that issue.

However, the Giants are now without a key player and need an OF'er. Too bad their farm system sucks.

I don't recall ever saying that.

If I read it right, the Bucs have avoided arbitration by settling with Gerrit Cole for $6.75 million. He was projected to get $7.4 million. I wonder if this affects his market any.

$650,00 isn't likely to be a deal-breaker for the highest profiting ball clubs with eyes on a pennant.

Well, there was some speculation that the Astros may have wanted to get the deal done before today so that they could submit their figures, not work off the Pirates'.

If it's anything like the speculation of Cole getting dealt to Houston, we know how much it's worth.

Subliminal Messaging cannot be proven, nor dis-proven. But dont tell Trump that. Mind blowing when compared to fake news

If that were true, I'm not saying it isn't, but if it were true, I can't see how this would be bad for the Astros. Since Cole got $600k+ less than projected, the Astros would have a hard time with PR if they traded away top prospects for a guy that they tried to nickle and dime in arbitration. This would make it easier for them, I'd think.

That won't stop the Pirates.
