As much as you don't want to see the Pirates lose, would have sucked to see Cole not get the win.

It took until the 9th inning, but the Tigers finally remembered that they're REALLY GOOD at hitting.

Little too... interesting... for my tastes. But a win is a win is a win...

I didn't like bringing Melancon in in a non-save situation. That doesn't usually work too well. Also if Walker would catch the ball the inning might have gone a lot differently.

Somewhat tainted, but a really nice win regardless.

Before the season, I was a tad concerned about the production at 1B. My concerns are being alleviated, especially considering that Pedro is generally not a fast starter.

Wow, 3 bombs already?

Pedro is on pace for 70 HR's...

If the Yinzer boo birds can call Cutch broken down and be negative after 5 games, I can spin some positive vibes.

Melancon ... he is Kyle Lohse right now. 88-89 mph cutters, nibbling, will give up HR's.

Not what I want or have come to expect from him.

I think he needs some work, since so far in 2015, the Pirates have had zero "save situations."

Agree that Walker should have caught both throws. I could not even figure out why Kinsler stayed at 2nd base on the first one. The 2nd one was high, no doubt, but it clanked off his mitt.

Seriously, if he catches both, then much of the drama is gone.

I thought he was throwing 91, which would be normal for him. He has good control and good ball movement, and he maintains his control under pressure, so he is usually effective despite the mediocre velocity. But he is very hittable at times.

I wish we had Chapman or Kimbrel or somebody of that caliber, but considering the results we've gotten, I'm happy with Melancon.

You've got that guy in Camenaro, if he holds onto his control. The guy is a freak in the Chapman mold.

He was dealing at 88-89 mph today, according to the Root feed I watched. He was dealing at 93-94 mph last year.

I agree with you 100% here. Melancon has been a very good reliever for 2 seasons.

I think, as does ZM, that the Pirates in fact have a Kimbrel-like arm, or maybe 3: Caminero, Liz and Holdzkom. The issue with all 3 is command - but what the hell, that is Kimbrel's issue as well.

Yesterday, Liz showed me why the Pirates liked him. He was pumping 97-98 mph gas, and then snapped off a 90 mph slider that had guys freaking waving at the ball.

I still think that Holdzkom joins the team this season and is a big part of the pen. Finally, Caminero throws GAS, and deals a 90 mph split. I like the split because it moves down-and-away from lefties. He fanned somebody on the Brewers with the split, and the pitch was just filthy.

Didn't Melancon pitch over in Japan as part of the US All Star team in the off season? Would that have anything to do with the loss in velocity?

Maybe they made that part of the MLB.TV subscription. Video updates are available on my phone but I subscribe . . .

It is part of MLB.TV.
