WOW! WEIRD, CRAZY GAME! In the end, GOOD WIN!

STARTER: Correia. Did just enough. After spending a couple weeks in the pen, he gets a spot start...manages to give us six innings...giving up only 3 earned runs. Got roughed up early then hung tough for several innings before faltering a little at the end. Considering all factors, calling this a good start.

WINNER: Correia gets his seventh straight win to raise his record to 9-6, with ERA of 4.49.

HOLDS: Resop (7), Watson (12), and Qualls (13) get credited with holds.

SAVE: Hanrahan strikes out the side in the 9th to earn his 33rd save.

Honorable Mention: Lots of contributors tonight! Giving Correia an honorable mention because I thought that this was a very honorable start. He did what he needed to do and made it throught six innings. He did not let things get away after a shaky start. Watson came in with 2 on and 2 out in a 2 run game. He promptly enticed a ground ball that should have been 3rd out but resulted in an error. Then with bases loaded, he got a strikeout. Jones went 2-3, plus a walk...scored a run. Also committed a couple of errors, negating higher "stardom". Marte hits his 4th HR and Mercer hits his first major league homer.

STAR #3: Giving it to Snider. He went 2-4 to raise his Pirate BA to .360. He scored a run and had an important OF assist.

STAR #2: Hanrahan! At a time when the pen has not looked so sharp for a few days, when this game seemed to be slipping away, Hanrahan came on in a one run game and struck out the side in the 9th.

STAR #1: NEIL WALKER!!!!! 2-4. Three Run HR to put the Bucs on top in the 1st after fallng behind 2-0. Bases loaded double in the 5th. The obvious MVP of this team is Cutch but who would be second?? Walker or Burnett??Walker 62.5

Walker has turned into one of the best hitting second basemen in the league. He's arguably the best in the NL.

Of all the nights when we really needed a "Blow strikes by them for three ks" save instead of Hanrahan's all too common "Walk the two lead off guys" or "Give up a single and a double with one out" saves, it was tonight.

Correia has to be the KING of pulling Quality Starts out of a hat. He's Houdini out there. Looks like crap, balls getting laced all over the park, and then you look up and he went 6 innings and gave up about 3 earned runs.

This really is Correia to a T.

I think the thing I hate most about him is that he looks like Chris from Family Guy.
