Fun fact: Last year the Pirates didn't win #43 until July 3 in the last of a four-game series at Washington. But at 41 losses they were barely above .500. Still, many of us were thinking this is almost too good to be true.

At the All-Star break they were 47-43. This year, if absolutely everything were to go right, they could go into the break an almost unimaginable 13 games over .500 at 49-36. Now that would be rarefied air. The entire baseball world would be talking about them.

OK, it's not likely, I know. But, hey, a guy can dream, right?

bob 13 games will probably not happen, but I am thinking we will be 9 games over by the time the mid simmer classic happens...not too bad at all, considering we have not been 8 games over .500 since bonds was our left fielder
