I fully expect Cutch to rest today, but let's hope this isn't a nagging injury or one that hampers his season. I'm very concerned right now.

We've won the series.....cutch needs to rest. Rest anyone who needs it today. We play Houston for 4 games....no reason we shouldn't win 3.

Great point. I hadn't looked ahead to see who was next on the schedule. Other than Walker or Barmes, I can't think of anyone else who could use the rest today. Seems like Hurdle as been mixing up the lineups lately.

With all due respect, I don't quite get this. In the big picture winning the series doesn't mean anything. If they have a chance for a sweep they need to go for it. Every game counts for the Pirates.

I'm hoping Bedard comes out and mows 'em down today. I'd love to put another game in between the Pirates and Cards in the standings.

That's an excellent point. Bob Walk made a great statement yesterday about the Pirates two big surges this year, and that they were made because we were winning when playing the teams in our division. He also said that 2 out of 3 is great, but you only gain a game. With a three game sweep, you gain THREE games.

But, nevertheless, Cutch needs to be held out today.

Was listening to some interesting commentary on the radio about what PEDs and other stimulants provided to players in past years. The recovery time needed was much less. The theory espoused is that players are perhaps experiencing more fatigue and managers have to make sure that everyone gets rest and time off.

Couple that with the brutal temperatures and I wouldn't be surprised to see a lineup which included Jones in RF, Alvarez at 3B, Harrison at SS, Walker at 2B, McGehee at 1B, Presley in CF, Sutton in LF and Fryer at C. Give Cutch, Barmes, Tabata, McHenry and Barajas some more rest on a hot day. If that happens, some will undoubtedly accuse Hurdle of "throwing in the towel" but I would see it as "pacing" the team and recognizing that keeping players as fresh as possible has longer term benefits. Matheny rested Furcal and Molina yesterday . . . I expect Hurdle to provide rest to key players today.

It has nothing to do with a series win or a winning road trip. I'd feel the same way if the Cardinals won yesterday.

On TV's MLB Quick Pitch this morning, they showed a Tweet from Cutch during the Pirate segment win against the Cards yesterday. He basically said all is good. He feels great.

A day's rest won't hurt though, although it will depend on Cutch at this point I would venture to say.

I'm very surprised McKenry is getting the start again today. With this heat he has to be gassed.

Perhaps it tells us a little bit about Barajas' condition, doesn't it? I thought that we'd see Fryer.

I think I would have gone with Fryer today to rest the Fort in this heat.

It's regarding McCutchen's injury, not a regular day off.

Seriously. Runner on 3rd with less than two outs and he can't get the runner in. Now he taps it to the pitcher (again) and hits into a DP. Unreal.

TABATA SUCKS!!! And yea, Clint, the bunt master doesn't bunt a suspect hitter again. I'm not a fan of bunting, but it is interesting that he didn't bunt Sutton or Tabata considering that's his usual mode. Maybe he has seen too many 3 run homers and is playing for the big inning! :D

What happened to Alvarez? Saw there was an "injury delay" on Gameday and he was replaced by a pinch-runner.

Either a cramp or hamstring. He did grab his hamstring area, but it didn't look real serious. Hard to say from TV.
