Fister is a talented pitcher, but one I expect the Pirates may have some success against. He relies heavily on his 2-seam fastball (a pitch in the upper 80's) and curve.

His splits show lefties have posted a .280 BA agains him in 2012, but a mere .301 OBP.

In other words, he succeeds by not walking lefties, even where they have some success against him in reaching base safely via hits.

That works out fine for a team like the Pirates, which features a number of lefties who hit well against righties but do not walk very much (Presley, Jones, Alvarez, Walker).

Update:

Fister's FIP against lefties in 2012 is 3.71. Good-not-great.

Every time I hear Clint Barmes name now the first thing that pops into my head to say is He sucks'. I'm pretty tired of this. There is no way he should be playing. Play Mercer! Give him 10 starts in a row to see what he can do. No way he is worse!

I like Harrison. I know he will never be a big numbers guy but he is a spark plug type player.

So, thus far tonight he struck out with men on, and grounded into a double play. That's like not only having zero impact, but a negative one.
