Fun Game. Two games out baby! Go Bucs. Tough night to limit the stars...but got it done...my thinking may be a little unorthodox here.

STARTER: Burnett...would have liked to see him go more than 5 innings...but after the first inning, he was pretty good. I am calling this a GOOD START.

WIN: Burnett gets the win, goes to 5-2. What a great pickup by NH. They guy has only had one bad start.

SAVE: Hanrahan racks up # 15 with 3 strikeouts in the perfect 9th.

STAR #3: Giving McGehee #3. Everybody's second favorite whipping boy....filling in for Pedro, he goes 2-3, plus a walk, getting his average up over .200. He hits a HR and drives in two, scores two. He got a single in his first at bat when we needed it badly, to get on the board. Later hit a solo HR to give us a 5 run cushion. We need his bat to come around. Hopefully this gets him going.

STAR #2: Presley. Picking between these guys tonight is like rolling dice. Presley had all good at bats tonight, except for one. He hit a HR and a triple. Scored 2 runs, drove in 1. Just after the Bucs scored to make it a tie, then held the Reds scoreless in the bottom of the inning, Presley gets the Bucs big inning going by ripping a triple down the line, to lead to a 4 run inning. He later added a solo HR to put the icing on the cake!

STAR #1. Clint Barmes. Everybody's FAVORITE whipping boy comes through big for the second game in a row. Ended up 3-4 with a double and three RBIs. Had a couple of big clutch at bats. In the second, he doubled, scoring Barajas from first, which is no easy task...with two outs. IN the third, he had a bases-loaded single, scoring two more runs. He later added a single.

Honorable Mentions...there are many! First off, I think all the members of UPPMB deserve an honorable mention for screaming for Presley's recall! Good thing management read the board and listened to us. (of course, it's also good they did NOT listen to us about benching Barmes and McGehee.) Seriously though, Honorable Mention to Walker. He went 2-5 with a monster HR right after the Presley triple to demoralize the Reds! He added a stolen base. HM to GJones. He only had one hit...but he got a single and stole second alllowing the McGehee hit to bring him home with the first run. Giving Resop and HM for getting out of a couple messes, including his own, with 4 Ks in 2 innings. He did manage to come in with runners on first and third and none out, giving up only a sac fly. Not too shabby. Giving Hanrahan and HM to go with his save, from striking out the side in the nineth inning.

pefectly placed stars Mr. Animal...
G.I. Jones is locked in right now, even his outs are hit hard. Hopefully he can keep up this streak for a little longer than most of his hot streaks.

Thanks batterup...and while I take a look at my "Star Standings" through the first third of the season, some interesting things jump out at me.

Obviously, Cutch is the leader of this team, and as he goes, so go the Bucs.

The starting pitching, obviously JMac and Burnett, have played a major role in the success of this team. Lincoln has done a lot too, starting a couple games and being lights on in the pen.

Despite the inconsistency, Alvarez and Tabata have done their part to help this team win. Both have had some good games. to go along with many bad games. Same for Presley. He was one of the team leaders early in this season.

Walker and Harrison are plugging along.

One thing I don't think the standing reflect is how vital the bullpen has been. I am wondering if I should make holds worth .5, instead of .25, and making saves worth .75. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

i would keep the hold and save the way they are, although I do get your point.

As much as walker has seemed to be underachieving he is still on pace to be around 10 homers and 60 rbis, numbers that are down from the past but still not too bad. I wish he could be 15+ homers and 85+ rbis, if his average is around 265 his power numbers should be up at least.

What ever way you decide is fine with me. I really appreciate the time you put in to do this. The Animal Stars is one of the first thing I open up to read. Again Thanks.

I was worried early on that I might give too many points to relievers, but looking at it now, I don't think I am giving them enough credit. While some holds are kinda ridiculous, a hold in a tight game (which is pretty much all we have had) is just as important as a good start or a save.

It was REAL BAD...but the guy is a team player. I remember some here bitching about Hurdle leaving him in, saying it was going to hurt his confidence, etc. I remember arguing that the guy was a veteran and would be okay, and that leaving him in may have hurt his ERA( which is back to very respectable) but helped the team by giviing us some innings.
