If you have three speedy outfielders, why not steal? Tabata/Presley's only true value this season is the fact that they can run. The running game was disappointing last year, and it has been so far this year, too. But I don't think that should stop them from running. It's our only real threat offensively.

Who is the third speedy outfielder?

Oh, I meant Tabata. Based on what I seen so far this year. That's what I get for trying to be sarcastic.

We wouldn't know if Tabata was fast anymore. He'd need to get on base first.

Why not steal? Because we don't appear to be any good at it. And I'm sick and tired of giving up outs on the base paths. To paraphrase Billy Beane, we are paying them to get on first, not to get thrown out at second.

Much rather see them try to generate runs through stealing, than getting to first just in time to get hit into a double play. We have fast guys, they simply need to get better at it.

You're absolutely right!

I have no problem with them trying to steal. They should be stealing much more. They need to correct the problem though, because there certainly is one. Presley, Tabata, and Cutch should have a much better success rate than they are showing.

In fact, in almost every situation, with Presley at first and Tabata batting, I would rather see an attempted steal than an attempted bunt.

Our baserunning is giving opposing defenses the functional equivalent of a double play. I would much rather our baserunners give the hitters the opportunity to extend rallies. Right now, they are killing them. Whatever benefit the extra bases are giving us is being nullified by our poor decision-making.

The best way to score runs is to avoid making outs. Our base stealing is killing our run-scoring. It's time to nip it in the bud.

You have three fast guys who should all be successful at stealing bases. You're proposing that they cut that out of their offense. They're not going to be THIS bad at stealing, they can't be. It's just another area they need to get better at, not cut out of their offense.

It's one of the only things teams have to worry about with us. And you want them to quit trying?

Not to mention, you take outs early in the year to establish a pattern that starts to upset pitchers. Run here, run there, run all the time. You start to put real pressure on the pitcher and defense to defend against the running. It works. Ask Chuck Tanner.
