Sorry no lineups, but this went up late.

Some quick notes. Pedro smoked one and then WALKED. He laid off some breaking balls. Two good at-bats.

Rod Barajas is slowly becoming a major bust. All he has to do is hit a fly ball, something he is supposed to be good at. Instead ends the inning with ground out double play.

Ugh. Two two-out singles, the second coming with 0-2 count.

Has Rod Barajas thrown anyone out this season?

I still do not understand why he is in a Pirates uniform. And I do not see what we would lose running McKenry out there the majority of the time.

He's hitting worse than Pedro and without the homers.

Well, that's the game. Watson walks people, umps screws us and then Evan Meek gets killed.

Went 2-1 to 6-1 in a matter of minutes.

Hated the move by Hurdle when he made it. Meek vs. Uggla, big advantage Uggla and that's exactly the way it went down.

I am getting quite sick of our base runners making outs on the base paths. Memo to Hurdle: STOP. F***ING. STEALING.

On a more alarming not, WHY are we getting thrown out so much? Who is our baserunning coach? Why are Presley, Tabata, and Cutch....guys who should have very high SB% getting thrown out so much??

Willton -
Wasn't it you that told a certain someone to "calm the f down" after Pedro had struck out for the umpteenth time? ;)
And a steal led to the only run for the Pirates. Memo to the team . . . start hitting the ball.

If you have three speedy outfielders, why not steal? Tabata/Presley's only true value this season is the fact that they can run. The running game was disappointing last year, and it has been so far this year, too. But I don't think that should stop them from running. It's our only real threat offensively.

Who is the third speedy outfielder?

Oh, I meant Tabata. Based on what I seen so far this year. That's what I get for trying to be sarcastic.

We wouldn't know if Tabata was fast anymore. He'd need to get on base first.

Why not steal? Because we don't appear to be any good at it. And I'm sick and tired of giving up outs on the base paths. To paraphrase Billy Beane, we are paying them to get on first, not to get thrown out at second.

Much rather see them try to generate runs through stealing, than getting to first just in time to get hit into a double play. We have fast guys, they simply need to get better at it.

You're absolutely right!

I have no problem with them trying to steal. They should be stealing much more. They need to correct the problem though, because there certainly is one. Presley, Tabata, and Cutch should have a much better success rate than they are showing.

In fact, in almost every situation, with Presley at first and Tabata batting, I would rather see an attempted steal than an attempted bunt.

Our baserunning is giving opposing defenses the functional equivalent of a double play. I would much rather our baserunners give the hitters the opportunity to extend rallies. Right now, they are killing them. Whatever benefit the extra bases are giving us is being nullified by our poor decision-making.

The best way to score runs is to avoid making outs. Our base stealing is killing our run-scoring. It's time to nip it in the bud.

You have three fast guys who should all be successful at stealing bases. You're proposing that they cut that out of their offense. They're not going to be THIS bad at stealing, they can't be. It's just another area they need to get better at, not cut out of their offense.

It's one of the only things teams have to worry about with us. And you want them to quit trying?
