Nothing whatsoever against Neil, who is one of the few hitters with any kind of a track record indicating a modicum of success.

If Neil Walker is your cleanup batter, you got problems.

Really enjoyable game. They ran into some horrific luck in the 8th with Walker getting caught up at second on the Jones bloop (which wasn't Walker's fault, there was nothing he could do) rather than loading the bases. And then if there's one thing I trusted Barajas to be able to do, I thought he'd be able to add a sac fly there, and he popped up. Just like in the Dodgers game, Grilli was cruising before giving up a HR - only this time it wasn't Ethier, it was someone who had no business hitting a HR.

McCutchen will get all the credit for the game-winning hit and going 4-5, but credit Presley's long, battling AB in the bottom of the 9th after two were quickly put away, and McGehee moving him to third on a single.

They played well last night. Good win. I think most of the credit needs to go to the bullpen, especially Hughes for eating a few innings while keeping the team in the game. Is Grilli really the setup guy or are they just hoping that Meek continues to develop coming back from injury? I've been really impressed with Cruz so far in this early season.

Wouldn't Karstens know he had shoulder inflammation before he stepped on the mound?

I was only watching Gameday Live (no tv), but when I saw the "Nastiness Factor of his first 10 pitches, I knew there was issues. Not that he's filthy to begin with, but I would liken the numbers to a batting practice pitcher. Mostly strikes, but very hittable.

Really nice to see the Pirates hitting for a change. Definitely their best game of the year so far in that regard. Lots of hard his balls. Even Kedro hit a couple hard and didn't strike out.

Barajas needs to stop trying to hit homeruns. McGehee needs to be in the lineup so I'd put Jones in right and McGehee at first against righties.

Definitely nice to see some hitting. We've even sneaked past Oakland to no longer have the worst team batting average. Now lets get past Cincinnati and their 0.205 average!
