Sitting at Birmingham airport . . . listening on my iPhone. Veras is making me want to puke my guts up.

From clips of the fans ... I know why Carlos Lee likes playing for Houston.

He is positively svelte compared to a lot of the fans.

God Bless Joel Hanrahan. The Pirates are officially not allowed to trade him. Without him, the ninth inning becomes a circus of horrors.

A fitting end to a mostly ugly game, I suppose.

For the first, but hopefully not last time this season:

Side note: I'm pretty sure I could have run out that grounder for a safe call. And I had reconstructive knee surgery on May 11.

Just sayin'.

Lee hit a hard grounder to Wood at 3rd, who booted the ball 40' towards SS, ran over, got the ball, fired to first and beat Lee by 1/4 step.

I was going to start a thread, saying exactly this.

We presume that leads are safe in the 9th inning because of Hanrahan. How soon we forget the troubles of Matt Capps, etc.

$19,000,000 worth of speed and hustle.

Yeah, it was great that Zack Greinke emptied his bladder on my pitching for the day.

From the shoe-is-on-the-other-foot department, check this out in the Houston Chronicle game story:

Quote:
The Astros lost to Pittsburgh 5-4 on Thursday as the Pirates completed a three-game sweep at Minute Maid Park, where as the worst team in baseball they went 0-9 last year.

Now it’s the Astros who are the worst team in baseball, and as the losses pile up with 11 in 13 games and a 25-45 overall record, events like these become less and less surprising.
