I was thinking the exact same thing, and was going to point out that if the Pirates had the current team, and added Tulowitzki at SS, they would probably be the best team in the NL Central.

Nah. The Reds would still be better because of their pitching. But that would be one sweet lineup for the Bucs...

And this Rogers guy can pitch. His fastball is 93-95 and he has no trouble at all getting his curve over. Looks like a loss to me.

That's it- make him run the bases. That'll screw him up.

I'd prefer if the Bucs didn't get him on base and then have him come around to score. That's not good.

Crappy game.

The Pirates are going to have 50 ass-kickings that they receive this year. This is one of them.

That is why losing games like the meltdown against the Flubs and the agonizing slow death against the Cardinals is an issue.

Pirates need to win most of those to avoid 95 losses this year.

I'm going to start the STBHOF again and induct Rogers as a member. Pirate offense? Where is it?

Will the real Paul Maholm take the pitching mound? Or did we see him today?

I think I know the answer......some guy who will surprise you with a good game on occasion but a pitcher who can't put consistent wins together.

Yeah. The Rockies have soundly beaten the Bucs in every phase of the game today -- pitching, hitting and defense. These teams don't look close.

Maholm is who he is. He is going to give up base runners and runs to good hitting teams (Phillies, Rockies, Reds). If he holds those teams to 4 runs, I would call it a success.

However, the really crappy fielding and just awful hitting is too much.

The Pirates offense has not generated enough noise to wake a colicky baby.

And, just for good measure, Alvarez boots a grounder. Nice.

Olson actually pitched pretty well, though. 1 and 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball with no hits and a walk.

Huh?

Edinson "100 pitches in the 4th inning" Volquez?

Johnny "Hey, guess what, I'm missing yet ANOTHER start" Cueto?

Homer "I killed in the minors but always post a 4.85 ERA when it counts" Bailey?

Their starting pitching will betray them this year.

Close contest, currently tied 2-2 ...

The contest between hits and errors, I mean. Geez, I can't believe I wasted DVR space recording this bowel movement of a game.

39,219 in attendance today. That's the second-largest crowd in PNC Park history. Nice showing, Bucco fans.

Unless it's against the Pirates...His career ERA not counting games against the Pirates is probably close to 7!!

I think they just stunk today. Pitching, hitting, defense were all disappointing. Tomorrow is another day. Hopefully they don't let this game linger.
