I think we will see a Rodriguez start tomorrow...just a little message from Hurdle

Nice to see Charlie Morton with a quality start, but 5 walks against only 2 strikeouts just ain't gonna cut it long term.

Baby steps. Undoubtedly Charlie needs to reverse his K:BB ratio, but last night's 15GB:3FB ratio is very encouraging, especially considering how he hemorrhaged home runs last season.

A couple of the walks also came in one inning in which the umpire was calling nothing on the inside corner which Morton was working the entire game. Not blaming the umpire, just pointing that out.

Not excusing the walks, but it didn't look as bad as the line.

Good point, Shark, but I liked the home plate umpire. He called a lot of strikes on the inside corner. Umpires used to rarely call that pitch a strike.

As a general aside, I am really impressed at how good the umpiring has been so far this year. I have to say, watching umpires make literally hundreds of calls, many on extremely close plays, makes me appreciate how good these umpires can be.

The officiating in the NFL last season was just horrible. In terms of the two sports, the officiating in baseball is far ahead of that in football. The NFL really needs to switch to full-time officials.
