Although now I'm a little torqued. The uneducated Rochester media just indicated that since we're starting Karstens, Strasburg will kill him.

a.) Karstens has been as good as we can really expect of him.
b.) Karstens will strike out Strasburg at least twice :)
c.) As 4/5 starters go, he's not too entirely shabby.

I retract my doomed comment out of pure incredulousness.

I hope we light him up and chase him after 4, and Karstens goes 6 giving up 3.

I'm thinking of compiling a list of quotes from this game. So far:

"The standing room only crowd did not pay to see Jeff Karstens. But the rules say that there must be an opposing pitcher".

The first time the Pirates were mentioned was when the line-up was shown during the second AB (after a hard-hit line-out by McCutchen).

"The Astros are the only team keeping the Pirates out of the cellar."

This just in-

Steven Strasburg is good. Really, really good. Amazingly good. Awesome.

But, this was probably an easier lineup than much of what he has faced in AAA.

Agreed about this lowly lineup, however...the guy was blowing 99 mph gas letter high in the seventh...SEVENTH inning(pitch 94 I believe). Unreal! And then there is the curve and 91 mph CHANGE UP!! Wow!!

Yeah, we're by no means the toughest team he will face this year.

BUT....

He will repeat this exact performance against MANY teams if he has the tools working that he showed tonight.

As for the Bob Costas comments? Screw him. And Kaat. And Smoltz.

Generally speaking, i like Costas. But when you call a game for the MLB Network, you're selling a brand. Costas decided instead to go to the low hanging fruit, and try to embarrass an organization that like can't be embarrassed any more than they are.

Perhaps, like Smoltz, he just doesn't know when to retire.

Two Pirates ran into a bar and the third one ducked.

He had an easier time with the Bucs than he did vs. Altoona.

FWIW, I think he was "coasting" in the minors. He's that good.
