Cy Young award winner Bronson Arroyo is mowing down the Pirate offense.

Iwamura is 1 for 21 since the beginning of this home stand.

Let's keep sending him out there. Let's keep leading off with him.

I am sick of the Pirates just throwing guys out there who don't contribute at all!
When do we end this Imawura and Clement experiment? If there are no promising signs by the end of the month, then it's time to pull the plug.
How much longer is the Super 2 thing over so we can get Tabata and Alvarez up here?

Clement swings at the first pitch in the 9th tonight after back-to-back walks, and it could have very well been the game-ending DP.

It's just getting ridiculous. I simply can't believe he is glorifying how terrible he's been this year by doing something like that. I haven't called for anyone to lose their job this year, but I am officially done with the Clement experiment.

If I were John Russell, I would have pinch hit Ryan Church for Clement in the ninth.

But I'm not Russell and Clement choked.....again. I think I've seen enough too. Send him down and hope he has some success to build his confidence and refine his swing. He just isn't getting it done.

Church must have been unavailable due to the wrist injury.

Meanwhile, at Indianapolis Neil Walker played 2B tonight for the third straight game and fourth in the last six. Just sayin . . .

(It may be purely coincidental.)

FYI, he has had an extra-base hit in each of his last five games. Tonight it was a triple.

I didn't see the game but checked-in occasionally on Gameday. You can argue both ways on the Clement AB in the ninth. The result being an out, it's easy to say he should have been taking considering the previous two batters had walked, but playing devil's advocate...

* Doumit and Milledge both had counts of 2-2 before they walked, it's not like Cordero was all over the place. According to Gameday, with the exception of two pitches, he was consistently low and away, just missing the strike zone.

* Cordero would not have walked Clement. Which leads us to.....

* Cordero won't risk throwing a slider to a LHB, the chance that he leaves it up and in is too risky, so Clement knows he's going to see a change or a fastball, with two on, and one out, you have to be thinking fastball for a strike on that first pitch.

* Clement got the fastball for a strike right down broadway. Unfortunately he doesn't field like Mays, and he hits like shit. Result: weak grounder to 1B.

For me the bigger concern is that Clement can't put good wood on the ball even when he knows what is coming

I believe they used to call that a slump.

I think Clement needs a slump buster.

Yes, and let's end that Andy Laroche experiment as well.

Before you can slump, you must have established yourself as a good hitter.

He has, as a minor league player.

He can hit. He isn't.

I would like to see him move to 2nd base.

My point is that if we traveled back in time and looked at the posts from last May, we would see many people (and I'm relatively certain that you were one of them) suggesting that we should end the Andy Laroche experiment. Laroche was a failure. He would never amount to anything. He was a AAAA player. Now he's a solid contributor and your starting second baseman of the future. What makes you think that Clement, given time, won't come around in the same way?

To be fair, I don't believe Andy LaRoche was ever this bad, but I agree that Clement should be given a little longer. Same with Aki.

We're not going anywhere this year. I don't see anything wrong with taking through June to see what we currently have before bringing anyone up to replace them.

A solid contributor?
He is the Pirates starting 3rd baseman. He has only 5 extra base hits and 7 rbis. He is batting 290 something? If you throw a team of 9 andy laroches out there it will be a losing team. Why are you acting like we have the next Ryne Sanderg? Laroche would not start on alot of other Major League teams. Of course once again you take a 25 game sample, and totally discount the fact that in close to 300 games he has batted 236 with a 678 obp.
You want to just throw out players who are not producing at all until they have a good stretch. Then you praise them and management like a bunch of geniuses.
Also the people on this board make Laroche seem like a gold glove 3rd baseman and he has 6 errors in 26 games this year. Only fielding 933.
