Bucs are leading 1-0 but LaRoche and Milledge in particular are swinging at bad pitches low and outside the strike zone. I don't get it.

In the 3rd, LaRoche and Jones received collectively saw seven pitches. Six of them were swinging strikes.

Jones is swinging at low and away pitches too, swinging at junk. I don't understand why they can't stay off that garbage. Garcia keeps feeding the Pirates the same diet of junk. You would think the Bucs would make him throw strikes by getting the pitches up or take the walk.

Kartsens is pitching a very good game. In a bit of trouble right now. Top of the 6th with runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs.

Pirates must get Karstens more runs!

Oh, Clement.

For your own sake, this was not the time to look at strike three, pinch-hitting with two men on.

Can Hanrahan hitting a batter with two outs in the 8th, with Pujols on deck in a 1-run game constitute as just as horrible as the awful baserunning/fielding in last night's game? I say yes, regardless of the outcome.

Great game, would anyone care to comment on a few things?

1. Did it look like the second ball (third pitch) to Rasmus in the lead-off walk by Dotel was a strike? Gameday showed it to clearly be in the zone. Maybe it was revenge for the Ludwick incident, I don't know. But for the first time in a while, gotta dive Dotel a pass here.

2. Did anyone else find the Clement pinch-hit ... unnecessary? Of course it didn't hurt due to the nice performance by the bullpen, but it appears Karstens would have went a little deeper. I understand that they wanted to get the struggling Clement an AB and it could have ended up being a huge confidence booster, but still ... just seemed unnecessary.

Russell likes to pinch hit to "put the game away." Recall opening day vs. the Dodgers when Church is brought in to PH with bases loaded, and he puts one to the fence.

Karstens had thrown well, and had not thrown many pitches. He had to work in the 6th, so maybe Russell thought that he was close to the end, and wanted to try and put the game to rest.

Definitely agreed on the strike call. RE Clement's PH. I agreed with using the PH...didn't understand going with a cold LH batter against the lefty. I was saying all along that Clement on deck was a decoy and they'd actually use Delwyn Young....anyway. Maybe Delwyn has a horrible history against Boggs?....Regardless....Raise it!
