Jones is in the hospital because he has lodged food in his esophagus and would not digest...

Quote:
Pirates first baseman Garrett Jones was hospitalized late Friday night because of food that became lodged in his esophagus and would not digest. He is expected to rejoin the team here at Dodger Stadium tonight but not play in the game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Manager John Russell said this afternoon that it happened shortly after the 6-2 loss Friday.

"It wasn't severe," Russell said. "It was just that he swallowed something and it wouldn't go down. You know how when there's swelling in that area and you can't get something down and need a drink? He just couldn't get it down."

Doctors did tests and gave Jones medicine, Russell said.

Way to go Andy LaRoche. Leave the bases loaded. Back to your pitiful inconsistent hitting. :x

Way to go Duke. Serve up a 3 run Home Run. Remember Pirates, Duke is pitching. You'll have to score 4, 5, or 6 runs to win the game. Way to go Sir Duke. Give up some more runs like we know you can. You suck.

Absolutely ridiculous decision to have Aki try to steal 2nd in the first inning.

The opposing pitcher was making his first major league start. Aki walked on 5 pitches without taking the bat off his shoulders. Andy took two balls. The only logical course of action at that point wat to continue standing there and make the guy throw strikes.

Instead, Aki tries to steal, bails the guy out, changes the complexion of not just the inning but the game.

Aki does not have base-stealing speed under any circumstances. But in this instance, it was a stupid, stupid decision.

Watched very little of the recorded game.

Yes, dubious of the steal decision but here is what we need to understand.

The first base coach times the delivery home. If the pitcher takes a certain amount of time to get the ball home, certain runners are sent. Aki was 2-2 in SB's before last night.

A bigger issue I have is the fact that the 3-1 pitch to Andy was 6" off the outside corner and was called a strike. Horrible, horrible call. John "Somnolent" Russell continued his Rip Van Winkle impression.
