Baserunning blunder by Jones. He didn't score from third (didn't try) on a slooooooow roller to SS. Ugh.

I think that's coaching. I complained last season about Beasley and his conservative handling of runners at third. He held Jones on the previous ball to the outfield and then didn't coach or send Jones on the slow grounder.

I argue again that when you're the inferior team you must try to make things happen. Make the other guy play well to get you out. Instead we stay with the hope that the pitcher will bring him in.

Now the big question for me is who is going to hit the big 2-run HR for the Pirates to boost their worthless stats. I love the guy, I really do but I have a feeling it will be Doumit...

From DK's blog...

Quote:
2:25: The crowd is not big, but it's booing very loudly now.

2:37: Wow. Booing the pierogies when they came out. That's a first.

3:07: It's 16-0. What we are seeing here is nothing less than the worst game the Pirates have played at PNC Park. And it probably goes back well before that. An utter, complete humiliation.

I'd take it a little easier if it were any other team, but it stings worse because its the Freakin' Brewers...

Randy Wolf has two hits... Craig Counsell has two RBI's... Jim Edmonds has three hits, a HR and three RBI's...

There are few words...

Can't wait to play them again in four days. In Milwaukee. What an absolute shellacking. There's not a mushroom cloud .jpg big enough to accurately convey today's total devastation at PNC. At least bring up Karstens so he can hit Braun again. Maybe a trade for Kendall?

Ouch. The best you can say is that we avoided the most lopsided shutout in baseball history, preserving our own place on the right side of the milestone (1975 game, 22-0 win against the Cubs).

This was humiliating on many different levels. However, keep in context what is going on here. This isn't unexpected.

This team is not very good and will not be very good in 2010. The team is only 1 game under .500. Again, I treat this like our minor league affiliates. I don't really care what the final score is. I care about how individuals perform. So, in the bigger sense. The season has been disappointing because of the ineffectiveness of the starting pitching, Ryan Doumit, Jeff Clement, Garrett Jones and many others. But don't look at the wins and losses or it will drive you crazy.
