I can't think of a better night for Clement to break out and Milledge to get his first dinger.

Aki Iwamura<<<<How many At Bats will be wasted tonight?
Lastings Milledge<<<<How many At Bats will be wasted tonight?
Garrett Jones<<<<How many At Bats will be wasted tonight?
Ryan Doumit<<<<How many At Bats will be wasted tonight?
Jeff Clement<<<<How many At Bats will be wasted tonight?

Cedeno and Cutch are the only starters (Milledge borderline) who are hitting for acceptable (not great) average.

And, I would rather have Jones get more hits and contribute that way and bring up his average rather than the occasional home run. His batting average is unacceptable. Unless he can hit a ton of Home Runs, he better figure out how to get more singles, doubles, and triples to bring up his average and help this team win more often.

I'll take Iwamura's production any day over Cedeno's.

I actually think Milledge is doing pretty well for the Bucs, all things considered.

Just remember that it could always be worse: it could always be Brandon Moss.

If you look at Cedeno and Iwamura's stats jaybee24, they are very similar. It's kind of sad that we are talking about two below average hitters as though they are the better Pirate hitters......sad. :?

Actually Cedeno's BA is much better:

A Iwamura
12 47 7 11 2 0 2 7 19 8 7 1 0 .345 .404 .234

R Cedeno
12 44 4 13 2 0 1 5 18 1 13 2 0 .311 .409 .295

I realize that Cedeno's average is 60 points higher, but this is where batting average is misleading in my opinion. Iwamura has been getting on base by working counts and taking walks...he's also slugging around the league average, which isn't bad for a second baseman. Cedeno hasn't been hitting the ball hard, and it seems like his average is driven by seeing eye singles. If I had to take one player today based on offensive output alone, I'm definitely taking Iwamura since he's much more likely to keep this up.

And yeah, it's a little sad that we're debating over who's having the better year, neither is really tearing it up. But I do think Iwamura has been slightly above league average so far this year, which makes him very valuable for the position he plays. If he's our future leadoff hitter, we're probably screwed, but if he's our future 6-7 guy, I can definitely live with that.

OBP is the more valuable offensive stat. Anywhere from .350 to .400 is considered to be good to very good.

Pirates:
A McCutchen .373
A LaRoche .364
A Iwamura .345
G Jones .333
R Cedeno .311
R Doumit .304
L Milledge .296
J Clement .189

Well, we can talk about stats all day.

I have one and only comment at this point.

The Pirates suck. Good luck NH and FC.

After all of these years, I have finally had it.

@Bassoon: I've been busy with the Sabres tonight, and JUST checked box. Feel your pain. Might be another long year. Unless they gel, it's getting tough to say that injecting Alvarez or Tah-Bah-tah will spark this crew. Then again, your first trip through big league pitching if you have talent can make you look like A Legend.

Need some wood on the ball or we might as well start Morton every other game.

Maybe Ben Roethlisberger can pitch for the Pirates. I hear he has some free time.

BD ... patience, my friend. I feel your pain. I probably have caused some of your pain, but that is beside the point.

Meanwhile, I still like the A's, though Gio Gonzalez pooped on my fantasy team in his past two starts.

The Pub was quiet ... could not get admitted. I fear that the moderators have realized that keeping me out increases the Pub experience immeasurably. :D

all the good feelings and optimism that was created by the sweep of the Reds, was quickly killed by these last 2 games. reality has sunk back in

No kidding. I feel like a schizophrenic when I think about this organization.

Probably more to do with being down 7-0 through six. I tried to get in as well. Place was boarded up, tight.
