Has anyone seen Milledge catch a ball yet near the LF line? Maybe is it because everything is dropping in because he has to run 35 acres to get there?

Dotel gives up a 2 Run HR. Bucs 6 Giants 5

I do not like the feel of this one.

Great catch by Jones at 1B. Sandoval ropes one but Jones dives and catches it. Dotel hung tough after giving up the HR.

Great team win for the Bucs. Pirates 6 Giants 5

PS: Evan Meek pitched very very good tonight also.

So I fell asleep after the 2nd inning, did Maholm ever manage to get his pitches down in the zone? Hard to tell judging by the score. The pitches I managed to see were pretty fat but he managed to escape with a couple of fly balls.

Did anybody else notice? Andrew McCutchen runs fast. haha. Last night was the first time I've noticed how quickly he's at top speed. On his 3rd step he seems to be in top gear. Unbelievable. I think we have a league leader on our hands again. When was the last time we had a league leader on a (good) category of note?

Always nice to wake up to a win. A lot to like about the game, specifically LaRoche homering, Cutch on the basepaths, and Garrett Jones having a huge day. Also a lot to dislike...such as Lastings Milledge going 0-fer, and only seeing 11 pitches in four PAs. The lineup has way too many holes in it for the 3-spot to be pulling that kind of crap.

I've been seeing a lot of this on the board lately. I've gotta say that I hate this perspective. 82 wins means nothing to me.

If St. Louis and Milwaukee were to struggle, 85 wins might win the division...

I'm not sold on the Reds, the Cubs are the Cubs, and Houston looks awful...

I dont think this team will be .500 and that isnt my goal for this team, but if alot of pieces line up and fall in place they could be close to .500 and if everyone performs above what is expected a winning season is possible...but not likely...

It would be nice to see this group pull a 1997 and actually win the division too...

Random observations:

If there was a strong correlation between winning and collective team weight, SF would win any game against any team except maybe the Yankees on nights that Sabathia was pitching. Unless they start that Velez guy....

Laroche's HR was to dead on center field. Let's hope this is the start of something.

Doumit seems to get thrown out on the bases a lot. Not sure I can blame him for last night's instance though. It took a terrific throw from the right fielder to nail him.

I like what I see from Ryan Church. He's been money off the bench thus far.

Eight games, still no errors for Clement. Now if only he could start hitting...

Maholm made some clutch pitches to get out of jams. Watch and learn, Charlie Morton.

Meek and Donnelly were both strong even though Donnelly didn't seem to be throwing to where Doumit was setting up.

    JWDKWWAM*

I went to sleep after the top of the ninth feeling relatively secure in the victory. Then I dreamt that Dotel walked the bases loaded and Milledge dropped a line drive allowing the Giants to tie it up. Luckily reality wasn't quite that bad.

Very important question here, think hard burgher, was Milledge's drop in your dream the product of him playing in some half-assed LF shift? :)

Sorry, no. It was a line drive right at him, one of those tweeners that comes at you fast and you don't know whether to address it overhand or underhand. Probably he lost focus for a moment while thinking about his 8 children from 10 different mothers....

I'd like to see more patience as well.
On a positive note, I loved Milledge's hustle getting to 3rd base on Jones' seeing-eye single in the 8th inning. Too bad that Doumit adopted a poor plate approach with a 2-1 count and went after a pitch which was not exactly in his wheelhouse and ended up grounding into a DP. That run could've been huge but for the 9th inning rally.

When I look at SF, I am kind of hoping to see them win their division and get to the NLCS.

It would be fun just to watch them make sabremetricians spin like tops.

What exactly would be making the sabermaticians spin?

The whole SF approach to the game.

Hackers, wackers, and tubby tots taking nary a walk while swinging Randall-Simon like at any sausage they see.

That's a real nice line there ZM! Big fan of alliteration. Keep up the good work.

Giants' hitting lineup today:

1. Tinky Winky - CF
2. La La - SS
3. Kung Fu Panda - 3B
4. Ipsy Dipsy - 1B
5. Fat Molina - C
6. Fat Bastard - LF
7. Po - RF
8. Fat Uribe - 2B

No truth to the rumor that Rick Reuschel is scheduled to pitch.

Ah, yes...that would do it. And if the Giants made the playoffs with the A's being left out, I'm sure Billy Beane would have smoke coming out of his ears.
