That is what happens when Major Leage pitcher can't throw strikes. They are getting paid a lot of money to throw strikes and they can't do it.

Penn must go today. He has been unbeleivably bad every time out. That will not go down as a good move by NH. Worth trying but no more please.

I didn't get to see the game but bringing in Penn just seems like an incomprehensibly bad decision - in spite of his poor performance so far I'm OK with him being given another chance before being demoted, but surely only a game we've already lost or won. And why would Russell giveup on a game with the score 8-4 in the 4th inning? Is there any positive way to spin that decision?

I'll be honest- I considered the game over. I turned the game off with McCutchen still on the hill. I would have put Penn in as well.

Its the 4th inning and you are going to the bullpen. Its not like you just need Evan Meek to get the ball to Dotel here. You've got at least 5 innings to go. I guess you could make an argument for Carasco, and hope he gives you 2-3 innings. But really, I was thinking it was a mop-up situation, down by 4 with your Sunday lineup in.

I'd like to say that 'the wheels came off', but that would be saying that there were wheels to begin with.

Just an ugly game, and in a 162-game season, it's best to forget these and fast.

And perhaps [one of] the best way to do that is to forget Hayden Penn.

I'm putting this one in the past and quick. Hopefully the team will learn something from this abysmal performance.

The Sunday line-up produced 6 runs, with no help from Jones, but had trouble in the field. The Pirates defense this season has been below-par and needs to improve ASAP, since the team features a lot of guys who pitch to contact.

I am a big fan of having pitchers throw strikes and induce ground balls, but if the infield makes errors and fails to get to balls that should be outs, then the chances of giving up runs increase significantly.

A positive of this all is Hayden Penn will probably not be on the team much longer...
