I'm curious to see how Jason Heyward does for the Braves today. I also noticed both teams are batting their pitchers today, getting them ready for the season.

Getting crushed again. This could be another very long year.

Boy, I'm starting to think that, too, Ralphie. I hate to get depressed over ST games, but getting pounded every single day is ridiculous! 90 losses looks inevitable again. Maybe it will set up one of those "worst to first" scenarios for 2011.

Pirates cannot hit a lick thus far in spring.

It just doesn't matter ... it just doesn't matter ... it just doesn't matter.

This has to be the year they show improvement, or Neil's entire body of work is a failure. The supposed core of the team is here or will be here this season.

They don't have to get to .500, but they do have to show some level of competitiveness.

I know better than to put too much weight on spring games, but these guys that we have high hopes for are just not getting it done. Different players, same results.

I'm saving my angst for the regular season. Just keep repeating Bucfan's mantra until opening day, guys. Then, when they don't hit, we can all start bitching.

FWIW, the score is now 6-6. Pearce has a HR and a bases-loaded single, Young a 2-run double and Chase D'Arnaud (in the game at SS) an RBI single. Also of interest is the fact that Young is playing third.

Also of note, the 5 runs in the 8th were scored off of some guy named Jessie Chavez.

I'm not getting too worked up over the ST games. Either way. I don't think anyone thought the Bucs were a much better team when they pounded the Yankees recently. It was fun to watch though.

Bucs win 7-6 in the 10th but I don't know how. The MLB box score does not indicate a 7th RBI even though the run is earned. Manny Acosta, the losing pitcher, is credited with 3 walks and a wild pitch, so maybe he threw away the winning run.

Stars of the game go to Pearce (2 for 5, HR, 3 RBI), Young (1 for 2, 2 RBI) and d'Arnaud (2 for 2 with a stolen base). The winning pitcher was The Great Stephen Jackson.

And there was nooooo doubt about it!

Baloney. Most of the guys he has acquired are still in the low to mid minors. Unless you can show me any team in history that lost 95 games and had one of the worst three minor league systems in baseball were turned around two years later. One day when folks look back on Huntingdon's performance with the Pirates, they won't give a hoot about the record of this year's team, and they won't even care that much about how the trades worked out. They'll be looking at how he did in the draft.

by the way, I'll be glad to book any bets that the Pirates will not have a better record this year than they did last year.

Stop paying attention to what the front office says. In the long run, it just doesn't matter. That being said, you're misinterpreting the statement.

The MLB TV baseball anchors believe the Bucs will be 9 or 10 games better than last year.

Yeah, that sounds about right to me.

Especially if they role the real talent up early enough in the year to get established a bit and make a difference by the end of the season in terms of winning games.
