This is the Pirates likely opening day line-up and batting order (sans DH, of course). Interested to see if they can put together good at bats vs. Sabathia, as they did a few days ago.

All I can say is adter 4 innings --- Charlie Morton. --- 1 hit, 1 BB and 4 Ks. Mowed down the world champs. Get ready, here he comes. 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Pirates flashing the bats! 6-1 Bucs.

I like Vinnie Chulk! :)

Aimlessly flipping channels this morning, only to find that this game is on MLB Network. Wonderful surprise. Got to see the action from the top of the 3rd and on.

Morton looked great.

Aki's HR was impressive, even if wind aided a bit (although the wind was blowing out to right and he hit it to left center).

McCutchen's steal of 3rd was great...such a great jump there was no throw.

Chulk looked really good too, with Johnson's VERY winded aided HR being his only blemish. If ST ended today, he has to be in the bullpen.

Crosby Delwyn and Pearce all with solo HRs in the 7th ... inning isn't over yet.

Delwyn now leads the team with 10 RBIs in ST.

DY had to just cement his spot on the team, don't you think?

Crosby with his 2nd HR ... also has an RBI double.

So, management, is SS still not a competition?

Jean Machi =

Just looked awful. Mercifully, he is pulled from the game after 4 runs allowed, 1 runner left and ZERO outs. Yuck!!!

Over-all an outstanding game. Glad that one was on TV and i'll bet they were too.

For me the names today were Morton, Chulk, Crosby, Young, Milledge, Cutch, and for their little action Alvarez and Tabata.

Crosby was looking like a starter. He's really having a great start as a Pirate. May soon be the ss or shortly after season opening. I think without injury, he may be the find of the off season. Here's hoping.

Is Crosby's defense good enough to be an everyday player at SS? With Duke and Maholm in the rotation, and with Morton and Ohlendorf dealing two-seamers as well, a plus defensive SS is critical to the Pirates.

In 2008, Crosby had the 4th highest zone rating at SS in the AL, behind Michael Young, Derek Jeter and Orlando Cabrera.

In 2009, he did not play SS. He played 3rd and 1st. It is unlikely he can start 135 games at SS.

I like Crosby as a bench guy, who can fill in at SS. I just do not see him as a starter at SS, however. The fact that he can outhit the likely starter is more of a referendum on the starter.

In 2009, Crosby was essentially playing hurt, with his back injuries.
