Crosby pops up.
Jones pops up.
Walker grounds out.

The Yanks just got a perfect game by the scrub Alfredo Aceves.

Get out the Scott's list early.

Hoffman flies out to 8.
Pilittere 5-3.
Corono flies out to 9.

From Tampa:
Lincoln records an out, gives up a single. Kratz gets a CS. Walks another, but retires the last batter. TB 1-0 after 2.

Had to leave for a bit.

From Tampa: Tabata tripled. Alvarez singled him in. 1-1 tie.

Apparently, Don Larsen's spirit has taken over Alfredo Aceves.

Wake the children, phone the neighbors. Virgil Vasquez is in and he is getting better. He only allowed two runs on four hits in 1 inning. This actually lowered his spring ERA to 33.75.

Vasquez is, thank heavens, not part of the Pirates plans this season. He is probably number 18 on the depth chart of the top 12 candidates to be on the staff.

He had that one inexplicably good start in his first Pirates appearance, and since then has given up more bombs than an Al-Quaida wannabe.

Very impressive line score in the Yankees game. Buccos have more errors (2) than hits (1).

And it is not like this Yankees team gives a @$%* about spring training. In their two prior games, they were blistered by a combined score of 20-1, and in the prior 3 games in spring, the Yankees staff had given up 32 runs.

32 runs in prior 3 games, 1 hit allowed through 8. Check.

From Tampa: Good news. Pedro hit another triple and Brian Friday hit a two-run home run to give the Bucs a 3-1 lead. Bass, Karstens and Taschner have all made scoreless appearances.

Meek came in and surrendered an RBI double and then an RBI single. Tie 3-3. Going extra innings.

Exactly what the team does NOT want to see, with the staff involved in 18 innings already.

Well it didn't last. Sues came in and gave up a double. With two outs, he gave up a game-winning single. Bucs lose 4-3 in 10.

In total for the offense, 19 innings, 10 hits, 4 runs.

The offense is really the question mark about this team. The top 4 starters and the bullpen appear pretty decent - better than some, worse than quite a few, but still able to keep the team in games.

The inability to get on base or hit HR's is a death knell to the offense. Jones, Clement, Laroche, McCutchen, Milledge and Doumit all need to produce above career bests to have the team avoid scoring 650 runs.

Ummmm, ,where we going with that one Bucfan.

Doesn't one need a career to best, first?

I wanna wait until ten days before opening day.. if the numbers aren't improved by then, I will start to worry.. right now, I am in the pitchers are always ahead of hitters column.
