Well it's now time for a battle of the bull pens. Both sides still have their "closers" available so whoever has to go theirs first loses.

Walk the leadoff hitter, you go to the showers. Guess Russell would rather see these guys do more damage.

JR - You are losing my vote.

I don't understand. JR never pitched Veal cause he couldn't trust him but Jackson??? Is he family???

What about Cutch backing up when coming in might have gotten him there.

Well, now Dumatrait and Capps can compare notes on pitching to Ryan Howard in close and late situations.

Tough loss, which can be put on the offense. Pirates need Tabata, Alvarez, and Sanchez on the field and hitting, along with McCutchen, D. Young, Milledge, and maybe Andy and Jones. Too many bad hitters = the pitcher wiggling off the hook when he is in trouble.

Sorry I missed the game in real time. I had to DVR. Maybe JR thought it was Grant Jackson?

Grant Jackson would do as well as Steven Jackson right now. Of course, he would only do as well (and not better) because Grant Jackson is now 66 years old.

Bit of a tough loss, despite a little 'heroics' (from---MOSS?!)

The Bucs have become a good-scoring 9th inning team.

If they can consistently score in innings 1-8 (even just 2-3 runs), W's will be more common.

Obvious statement, but true nevertheless.

At least the Bullpen is playing mediocre enough to keep us in the game until the 9th (Capps aside).

tough loss for sure...after a well pitched game by Maholm. Great clutch hit from Moss. My favorite play?...who woul have ever thought Delwyn Young was capable of a layout catch like the one he made last night? Not me...wouldn't it be great if he could consistently come up with that kind of effort. That was all instinct and athleticism. Way to go DY!

Delwyn Young was probably the biggest acquistion this whole season...He can hit, and looks like he's learning 2nd base too...

You got that right. I think by next year he will be better than Freddy. As good an average hitter, more power, and just a little less defense. He may not be as consistent as Freddy with the average play, but he really seems to have better mobility and range.

I think one Buc who DEFINITELY is deserving of a raise is Perry Hill! He went out on a limb a short time ago saying if Delwyn doesn't get better now "it's on me". Our infield in the years to come will be as good/better than any IF in the league. Look how well An LaRoche has fielded this year. Whoever ends up at shortstop will benefit and the 1B committee of Jones/Pearce/Alvarez/Clement et all are going to be strong fielders too. Congrats Perry!

I would give the whole staff 2-3 year extensions. Including Long. Remember, you can't make a filet out of ground beef but you sure can do the opposite. These guys know how to do it the right way. My hat's are off to them. And kudos for the FO that hired these guys
