If I'm managing, Garrett Jones is bunting with Cutch and Milledge on 1st and 2nd and nobody out in whatever inning it was. (8th or 9th?) Milledge wouldn't have been bunting with Cutch on 1st and nobody out, though.

That's fine, but my point is the same...I don't like it when the closer pitches in a non-save situation. Your statement is irrelevant to what I am saying.

So you're suggesting home teams never bring in their closers in extra inning games?

First off...I agree in a tie game, the closer should come in and perform just like he is trying to close out the game. My hypothesis is that when a closer enters a game in a non-save situation, even a tie game, they (at least Capps) do not perform well. My evidence:

Capps in save situations this year. 23 innings pitched with an ERA of 3.24. 21 saves, 2 Blown saves, 1 hold.

Capps in non-save situations this year. 14.2 innings pitched with an ERA of 8.63. 1 win, 4 losses.

To me...pretty compelling stats that support my opinion. But, it is just my opinion and is only limited to studying Capps this season. Looking at last season's stats he was pretty even between the two scenarios.

It was the bottom of the 11th. My guess is that Jones is just not capable of bunting.

In other words, he is a Pirate.
