It still baffles me how major league pitchers can't throw strikes when they want to. First Veal, then Meek.

So do you guys think Virgil Vasquez makes another start, or was that the last we have seen of him for awhile?

I vote for last start.

First extended look at Milledge at the plate. He is very selective and can hit the ball hard. Defensively, he is not as accomplished yet. But he is supposed to have some range and a decent arm.

Cutch is all that he was advertised to be. His bat simply whistles through the strike zone. I hope pitchers think they can go inside on him, since he turns on that pitch and just destroys it.

Andy is going to start hitting. His at bats were good, apart from the K against senior citizen Ron Villone. Andy just swung through a pitch in that AB.

Meek is going to be a quality pitcher, once he can get better command of the strike zone. His fastball is 92-95, and his slider is filthy.

Jones hit the ball hard 3 times. He blasted one to the deepest part of right-center and was robbed of a double. Wound up 2-4 nonetheless.

Doumit is tired. Physically, mentally, both perhaps. He needs tomorrow off.

Ronny Cedeno is Jack Wilson lite. Very good hands, good defense, will swing at anything. If Cedeno can be even slightly selective, he will be okay as a place holder. (He was robbed of a double in the 9th ... the hardest ball he hit all game, just crushed, but Zimmerman jumped up and grabbed it. Zimmerman then yelped as the ball obviously hit his palm. That'll teach the bastard to rob Pirate batters.)

Pitching ... ehh. Virgil Vazquez is not going to be in the rotation after this game, for a reason.

Yeah i think it was his last also.
Here is his line.
5 IP, 9 hits, 3 earned runs, 2 walks, 2 K's, 0 HR's given up, 1.79 season WHIP, and 6.09 season ERA.
Not a terrible start, but still his last in my mind.

It is his last start, absent double-headers, etc. Hart would've started this game, but for the fact he went 6 innings and beat Houston on Thursday.

The Pirates apparently like Hart. He is reported to be similar to Ohlendorf. 92-93 mph 2-seam, decent curve. He had controls problems in his early starts with the Cubs, but worked that out. He walked just 3 batters in his last 2 starts, covering 12 inning, wherein he gave up just 4 runs combined and won both starts.

Yep. Vasquez was just sent to Indy.

Doumit needs to get out of this funk. Seriously. He is the starting C and crucial defensively, as well as (for now) the clean-up hitter.

If he continues to mope around and hit lazy fly balls, he can sit on the bench and watch Jaramillo catch a few games.

I think he should. He has seemed worn out since the Arizona series.

He has played every game since he came off the DL...Russell, Jaramillo is pretty good, let him play for a day or 2...of course he's sat on the bench so much he will be pretty rusty too...

Jaramillo caught the game the other day...I think it was the 10 inning debacle.

My mistake...Jaramillo should get the start today...

Let Doumit take a day or 2 off...
