If you are a PNC customer, its 50% off with your bank card. I got two seats, front row, second deck, directly behind the plate, for a total of $16. Plus, its dollar dog night...and a floppy hat  .

Me too....a detailed game report on any observations about the new guys would be very nice. Would be great to get a report from curve, too....where the real change is happening!

Milledge in the two spot. Nice speed there at the top of the lineup.

4:43 p.m.: The Nationals just altered their lineup because of the trading of Nick Johnson.

4:46 p.m.: Just started raining here, really hard, chasing the Pirates off the field. Supposed to clear up by game time.

4:50 p.m.: Vasquez will start tomorrow, and the Pirates have some time to make a decision about their next starter, John Russell said. ... Setup duty will not fall to any one pitcher, Russell said, but will be split among Jesse Chavez, Evan Meek and Joel Hanrahan, with Chavez getting the nod when a given inning sets up with a lot of left-handed bats. ... Lastings Milledge was glowing about the time he spent with Class AAA Indianapolis, especially the instruction. "It was a great experience, honestly. I feel like I got everything out of my time there." He is wearing No. 85. ... Ronny Cedeno is wearing No. 13. ... Kevin Hart, the other newcomer, is not expected to arrive until right around game time. He will be in the rotation, Russell confirmed, but it remains to be determined when. ... Andy LaRoche found out about Adam LaRoche's trade back to Atlanta through a text and was jubilantly sharing that information with the rest of the clubhouse.

A sore throat and family in town will keep me from going tonight.

Is anyone else excited about tonight's game and seeing the new core of players?

Quite excited. Let's hope for the rest of the season these guys will play some good ball, gain confidence, and find something to build upon.

Pearce doubles and Andy drives him in to tie the game 1-1. Way to go. I'm getting a feeling that Andy is going to get real good here real soon. Just a feeling.

Jones hits a ground ball to 2B.....but Cutch still scores standing up from 3B and Jones is safe at 1B........Bucs 3 Nats 1..........yes! :)

I thought we were supposed to be "young and hungry"... Doumit was NOT running out that ground ball. Had he been he would have been safe. Young did NOT charge that ground ball.
I know we're young and we will get use to seeing mistakes, but I don't expect these mistakes to be due to lackadaisical play. If they make mistakes, they should be due to OVER aggressiveness.

Pearce goes yard.

You know Lannen has been pretty good this year, especially the last month.

I get a little tired with the "we will make mistakes because we are young routine". These are pro baseball players we are talking about. They are getting paid for their skill at playin the game. Most have been playing since they were 6 years old. MLB is not the place to learn basic fundamentals. If you haven't learned how to play by the time you are finished with high school or college then you should learn in the minors before you get to the bigs.

I totally get adjusting to the quality of MLB hitters or batters but using youth as an excuse for poor fundamentals or lack of hustle is inexcusable IMO.

I don't know any profession where you know everything and can do everything at a "certain age". You are always learning and developing your skills with your chosen profession.

If you don't then others will pass you by. I see way too many young people coming right out of college who are not prepared.

It takes time to develop the skills and acquire the knowledge to become successful and also to become comfortable with yourself.

There is a difference between being a savy veteran and not being fundamentally sound. You may not know all the tricks of the trade as a rookie or third year player but you should be far beyond the mistakes of "youth". Remember by the time most of these players reach the bigs they have been professionals for at least four years.

This is where I disagree with the way John Russell uses these young pitchers with control problems. As soon as Hanrahan walked a guy with a three-run lead, he should be in the showers. No questions asked. Bring the next one in and see if he can "pitch". Walking a guy with a three-run lead is unacceptable. Accountability should be the first priority.
