I'm quoting myself from 15 minutes ago

Quote:
Well Garrett Jones could end up being a godsend for us, and really help get this young team going.

He's on fire. Wow! It's an amazing story.

It might be the subject of another post, but with today's news I'm beginning to think that NH believes that by moving Jones/Doumit to 1st, getting veteran bench players, and with Milledge we could compete next year. Which would explain why they are considering signing Freddy and Jack. He said they don't think the distance in the NL Central is as great as they originally thought maybe he's right.

But I'm probably getting ahead of myself :)

Thank you Maholm
Thank you Bullpen

AND

THANK YOU GARRETT JONES!

He is one Pirate that really has made me smile! I hope it lasts and I hope he can be the one who finally gives the Pirates an offense with a serious power threat.

We rip the FO a lot (probably deserving) but they picked Jones up off the scrap heap from the Twins. If he does nothing else this year, this is still a great find and a great job by someone in the scouting department.

That was a moonshot by Jones! This guy is pretty special, not sure if he will keep it up, but he does seem to have a great approach and he is a great athlete.

Obviously, the home runs were great. And the hustle down the line on a grounder to second was refreshing, as well. Can we call him the 3rd LaRoche brother- Anti LaRoche?
I know my above comment isn't fair to Andy who does play hard.

But he is mediocre. Andy is not going to be a great major league player and he was the biggest part of the Bay trade for the Pirates.

Here is the PG opening paragraph today:

Quote:
The legend of mighty Garrett Jones, the Pirates' 29-year-old natural, is growing by leaps and bounds.

Didn't Jones just turn 28? Not trying to call DK out here, but that year does matter in a lot of people's eyes.

And Adam doesn't? Games over in the 13th if LaRoche doesn't make a great play, diving to block Freddy's offline throw.

Huge shout-out to Maholm. Announcing crew mentioned that the 10 days off (for Maholm) may have benefitted him more than any other Pirate. Maholm was masterful - unbelievable command of the strike zone, very few balls hit hard off him. The run off him was sad ... product of one of those weak-ass infield dribblers and a misplay by Freddy.

He located the fastball, spotted the curve, fooled hitters with the change-up. It was one of those games where Maholm showed how good he can be.

Cant agree more on the time off for Maholm...He's been battling nagging injuries all season, 1st his groin and his knee...

I think the time off was probably great for all of these guys considering most of the team is playing their 1st full season in the Majors...

Sorry, but you are way wrong on this. Adam hustles as much as anybody. Yeah, the guy is in a hitting slump, but he saves us some runs with his glove. You can certainly find an upgrade, but Adam LaRoche is still in the middle of the pack among 1b offensively, and is among the best defensively.
