Morton did kind of suck in that last inning. He was victimized by some bad defense and by some bad calls by the homeplate umpire, but still there were several balls that were too fat, like the one to Berkman, and several that were just wild, like the 4 pitch walk to Quintero.

Nothing but misery and frustration for Pirate fans.

What a lousy pickup this Vazquez dude turned out to be. He can't hit or field, and we're stuck with him for next year too.

Nice to see how well we are doing since they sat Moss down.

Ryann --- just to let you know-- Young is currently 7/35 since June 17. That is exactly an average of .200. AND HE CAN"T PLAY DEFENSE

Adam LaRoche tried to field a routine grounder to second. He realized too late that he should maybe cover the bag but couldn't get back there in time. Vazquez failed to field a one-hopper that Freddy would have had easily. Either play would have stopped the big inning.

Very fitting that the last pitch of the game was a called strike to Jones. The pitch was both high and outside. The ump f*cked us all day.

With a grand total of 5 singles, 1 walk, 11 strikeouts, 2 GIDPs and on a single occassion with back to back hits, perhaps if everyone went up there bunting - they might have had more baserunners today.

Good call, S2. Just dug into this further:

    Young's numbers since June 17: 35 AB, .200/.263/.314 for an OPS of .577, 1 HR, 6 RBI
Moss' numbers over the same period: 47 AB, .298/.353/.468 for an OPS of .821, 1 HR, 8 RBI

So, who should be sitting and who should be playing?

Cecil Cooper is an idiot...I don't care if the guy is throwing a shutout, you don't leave your starter in for almost 130 pitches when you have a five run lead.

The problem is that they can't bunt because most of them don't know how to do it correctly. They continue to try and play long ball, agressive style, instead of manufacturing runs. This is fine, if it's working, and maybe it is considering how people on this board have been criticizing bunting.

You can't win baseball games scoring 0 or 1 run.. thus giving up 5 runs doesn't really matter. They have to find ways to score more runs.

In fact sooner or later, the Pirates pitching will cave in b/c of lack of run production more pressure is put on pitching. That coupled with the young pitching of the Pirates is a recipe for disaster, and that is what we are seeing here.

Well...I guess JR and Cooper must be idiot cousins then...since JR let Snell throw 131 pitches in 7 innings earlier in the season.

This game sucked. We haven't looked like a top 25 major league team over our last 10 or so. I don't want to see us fall into that bottom 5 catagory.
