Don't look now but Andy LaRoche has been looking pretty bad at the plate the last three or four games.

Our "Ace" is in trouble in the bottom of the 2nd.

Well, this is what top-of-the-line starters do, put out fires. Paul Maholm, here is the ball...

I don't really get why Moss deserves to bat 3rd. This better payoff for Russell or he will get more criticism.

Who in the lineup DOES deserve to bat 3rd? Jack Wilson?, Jaramillo?, Vaszuez? You make do with what you have. That is something I think you would understand with your attempts at English with that limited intelligence.

But no, just another reason to bash Russell, when you really have no clue

I never bash Russell I question his moves.

What is wrong with Maholm's control? It seems to be a problem the past couple months. He walks Bourne and he scores. It's tough to understand.

Just what I was thinking. Once again a walk comes back to haunt us.

Pirates give their "Ace" the lead. He comes right back, walks the NL Stolen Base leader resulting in a run. Bucs 2 Stros 1

During the NH show on Sunday 6/27, he mentioned Paul struggling through aches and pains and "fighting through pain". It was the only time I heard mention of any injury. If he is hurt, and continues to struggle it might be time to miss a start and heal. I am watching tonight w/ this in mind.

Dammit then why not sit him? We don't NEED him in there we have depth at the starter spot and he can take his time.

NH mentioned that Paul really wanted to play. I think it cuts both ways, and if he can't play he should sit. Players often want to 'play through pain'. It felt to me that NH was saying that it's Paul's decision but it's hard to tell on that forum. Obviously that show is pretty controlled and he's not going to break much news on it.

I do think it's strange that none of the beat writers have said anything about it, which makes me think it can't be very serious if he is hurt at all. I wonder if anyone else heard it and if so how they interpreted it.

DK has made mention several times that Maholm suffered a groin injury and has tried to pitch through the nagging problems for some time.

BTW, so far so good on Garrett Jones. I like what I see.

For what it is worth, in the last 130 innings, the Pirates have scored more than 1 run in an inning on a whopping 13 occasions (including Jack's 2 run HR tonight). That includes:
Scoring 2 runs on 7 occasions
Scoring 3 runs on 4 occasions
Scoring 4 runs once
Scoring 6 runs once

Watching the Astros feed the past two nights. They are in awe of Cutch and his speed. They also noted the hard throwers that the Bucs have now w/ Hanrahan, Meek, and Chavez. Of course H can't find the strike zone which is a problem.

BTW - They mentioned Hanrahan could actually be the winning pitcher in a game to be resumed on Thurs between the Nats and Astros since the Nats took the lead as Home team while he was pitching. That's odd. :)

Hah! I like that. Wonder how they'll record that in the stats book.

God, WHY DIDN'T YOUNG BUNT!?!? Terrible decision Russell to have Young swing away there.

Maholm was on the post game show with Rocco lastnight...He said the groin is doing better and he's been battling a problem with his left knee, but they've both been better and he's hoping he wont need any kind of surgery on it at the end of the season...

He has had problems with the knee since high school and had surgery one it, I think he said his senior year of high school...

He also talked about how him and Kerrigan were working on him keeping his sinker down more than keeping it to the corners of the plate which he was letting it get waist high and getting crushed...
