What a waste of a brilliant performance.

Not Grilli's fault, either.

*Charlie Brown sigh*

Cutch was unfortunate on some hard hit balls tonight. That last at bat he was impatient against Chapman.

No, leaving the bases loaded twice and getting two base runners picked off are what wasted lockes performance tonight.

This is one of those games where if we played 80 innings we'd never score.

I don't have any confidence the Pirates will pull this out, either. Just seems like one of those nights where they're batting with just the handles.

You can't spell 'cringe-worthy offense' without Inge.

This is really, really sad. I have no faith in any of these nine guys currently playing to get a basehit, let alone a homerun. Yes, I am looking at you Cutch, Marte and Pedro!

mazzaro stinks. ok in middle relief, but not a guy you want in there when game is on the line.

Cutch has done nothing. He hasn't homered since may? When is inge going back for assignment?

This one really stung. Wasted effort by locke. We blow it in the 9th. strand the bases loaded twice, and get two runners picked off.

No realistic. This offense is impotent. They try going up there swinging for the bleachers everytime instead of getting baserunners on. And they get picked off, twice. Pitching is the only thing holding this team together.

They've scored 4+ runs in 36/72 games. The offense is very streaky. We already knew this. I think we also know that many guys aren't hitting at a level they're capable of. Cutch is bound to get hot at some point and that alone should help the offense.

Rough one to sit through 13 innings of at GABP. Two situations in which I had infinite doubt were when Inge pinch-hit with two RISP (and promptly grounds to third for a DP) and when Mazzaro was kept in for two innings. Of course getting picked off of the basepaths twice in the game didn't help (I thought Martin was safe but it might have just been the view from where I was sitting). The Grilli thing is whatever, inevitable I just wish it didn't happen for the first time one of the few times a year I get to see the team play live. Pirates hitters did get unlucky a few times, when Choo robbed McCutchen, showing patience to load the bases with Locke on deck and Snider and Barmes both narrowly missed HRs that wrapped around the foul pole. It did bother me that we never tried to run considering the success last night. Zach Cozart did something I've never seen before on the play when Alvarez hit a line drive that Cozart thought he snagged, he looked over to the third base umpire who showed that it was a fair ball immediately, and Cozart just froze rather than even attempting to throw to first (I could be wrong since I didn't see a highlight but I'm pretty sure he still had plenty of time to throw him out). One positive is that the Pirates have drawn 12 walks the past two games (yeah, I know they also struck out a million times last night too).
