The word for the day is apparently "HANDEDNESS."

With the exception of Alvarez at 3B, the lineup is comprised of all right handed hitters.

This certainly runs counter to the belief that Alvarez is being "platooned."

All in all . . . this lineup is about as SABRmetrically comprised as any that I have seen in recent memory.

Making good use of his pitch-framing abilities, I guess.

Seriously, Clint Hurdle has to be laughing to himself when he fills out these lineup cards. Pretty sure he is just trolling.

Just wish I had my Hurdled gif on my work computer.

Wow, when is the last time Martin has played outfield? Any word on Tabata's return?

Good to see #22 back in the lineup thoug. Go Bucs!

Seriously, I would have thought that the more SABRmetric-oriented crowd would be giddy with this lineup. Focuses on the handedness of the pitcher/batter match-ups (a SABR favorite). Jones isn't a great defender so you don't lose much with Martin playing RF. Walker doesn't hit lefties well so he sits and Mr. Back Up Quarterback gets to spell him for a game (a ploy which many in the SABR crowd were yearning). Hurdle forgoes handedness only for Alvarez and sits Inge (which ought to make everyone happy). Lefty Locke on the mound who will likely work lefties away and righties inside. This is a 100% numbers/statistics derived lineup.

I don't know if it will work but it should get an "A" for creativity. I've read plenty of plaudits for guys like Joe Madden employing similar approaches . . .

Let's just hope it turns out better than when the computer simulations concluded that Nyjer Morgan should be hitting clean-up for the Pirates!

However you lose Martin's defense behind the plate. And since it's not like they're giving Martin an off day and he's just starting at a different position, I'd just keep him at catcher and start Snider in RF regardless of the platoon disadvantage.

Pure speculation on my part but who knows what it means regarding Martin's ejection at catcher last night either.

Never, if my research is correct. At least in the majors. And he has only played in the OF three times in the minors (the last time being eight years ago).

This makes no sense to me. You take our best catcher and play him totally out of position in RF.
What's wrong with playing Snider?

Handedness. All about handedness. That's my guess. And, meantime, he gets a day of rest for his knees. And, perhaps, you let last night simmer for 24 hours.

I know Fort's popular and he definitely seems like a good guy, but he's a definite liability behind the plate.

Heck, I worry about him getting the ball back to the pitcher half the time...

Yeah I typically go into each game conceding one passed ball/wild pitch with him back there. Was really happy to see him gun a guy out after putting in so much work last week, but that throw today was just horrendous.

Unbelievable believable base knock from Freeman. Can't believe he hit that pitch.

Good answer. Locke needs a quick inning or two.
